Mathematics Algebra, geometry, and trigonometry are some of the courses offered by the Mathematics Department of Central High School. Ably supervised by Miss Henry, the depart- ment provides a strong foundation in mathematics for those planning to attend college and for those anticipating an occupation requiring a knowledge of math. This year the two regular half-year courses, Solid Geometry and Ad- vanced Algebra, were replaced by a special experimental course in Twelfth Year Math. Included in this course is the study of symbolic logic and number systems to bases other than ten. Science With the increasing emphasis on science in the world, Central's Science Department, under the chairmanship of Mr. Hills, has a very important task. The student must learn the fundamentals of biology, chemistry, and physics. BOM J elf? vi V JV all QL' X History The History Department, under the direction of Miss Griffith, prepares students to be well-informed citizens by teaching them the fundamentals of our democratic sys- tem of government, our American heritage, and the history and present situation of the World. Representatives from Central attended the New York Herald Tribune Youth Forum and a mock political convention, held at North High School. Thus, firsthand experience enabled the stu- dent to apply theories learned in class and to develop 1 ,f ideas of his own.
