All Centralites take four years of English to learn to express themselves clearly and concisely and to gain a background which will enable them to enjoy and appreciate the literature of many nations. The English Department, under the direction of Mrs. Stearn, has devised curricula to benefit different types of students. Enriched courses in English II and English IV are offered to those capable of more advanced literary work, and an English IV course in composition is offered to those who wish to improve their writing techniques. Our English Departments most im- portant accomplishment is aiding us to appreciate life itself through reading, discussion, and written expression. 17

Guidance The Guidance Department arranges our programs, sets up our schedules, and gives advice on college and career plans. The direction, sympathetic understanding, and en- couragement always shown have inspired us to try to attain higher and higher goals. Our future life, as well as our present, is dependent upon the help we have received. We the Senior Class are very grateful to the Central High Guidance Department for their inspiring work. ,, r , ..c. l p pl i I ' ' I of . t.' - , .. ff Row I, left to right at desk: Mr. Coppola, Miss Allen.
