Senior Glass flislary In the year 1943 on a clear, warm day, among the students sitting in the first grade at Valley Springs were: Kenneth Bagwell, Genell Baldwin, Pauline Baldwin, Shirley Brackett, Jackie Brown, Mary Jo Butler, Frank Cordell, Ray Gasperson, Billie Jo Glenn, Johnnie Graham, Dickie Johnson, Shirley McDonald, Nancy Messer, Kenneth Metcalf, Eddie Murray, Jimmie Searcy, Sally Tandy, Elenora Tate, Joe Ward, Charles Wells, Bill Wilkie, Catherine Woods, Allen Young, Gene Ducker, Doris Sumner, and Richard Ledbetter. We were one big, happy family until about the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades when Lee Boyd, Stuart Hart, David Hardie, Rose Mary Peck, Betty Lou Mull, Louise Tandy, and Gudrun Unger thought they wo ul d try Valley Springs for a while, but they liked it so well they stayed. By the time we got into the seventh and eighth grades things really began to get into a scramble, for then along came Anne Hawes, Harold Holbert, Eloise McBee, Maxine Metcalf, Mary Evelyn Allen, and Robert Herzberg. Well, we were all doing fairly well until about the ninth and tenth grades when Pat McCrary, Scott Harmon, Pauline King, and Frank Harmon c am e , and even Richard Ledbetter c am e back. By now the teachers were re ally getting gray and run down, but after thinking that they would get rid of us after two more years, they pepped up. During the junior year no newcomers came, but other important events began to happen. The Junior- Senior Banquet which brought along hard work and fun was here at last. The never-to-be-forgotten night arrived. The girls dol1ed up in pretty formals and the boys in new suits and headed for Grove Park Inn. That was really something to dress up for! Then the time came when we were measured for our class rings. We really felt we were reaching the last step of the ladder. After twelve gig awaited years we now had our rings and were guests at Junior-Senior Banquet instead of hosts. During the senior year, Betty Mull Hare came back, and James Nalley stepped into the family to receive along with us our diplom as and the other blessings that will help us to face what life has to offer. The members of the senior class of 1955 depart from their many hours of study and fun but will cherish them always as the happiest days of their youth.
