We remember seventy-six bewil¬ dered students wandering through the halls. We were not sure where ' to go or what to do. The school seemed large to us, and it took time to become adjusted. Soon, however, we were in the full swing of lessons and school activities. Our class officers were Jim Shifflett, president; Billy Hodge, vice-president; Carol Pullin, treasurer. The first exciting moment was the election of Brenda Winebriner as our football candidate. We were initiated by the seniors and entertained at a Sadie Hawkins Dance. DOROTHY ANN CLEEK LAVONIA ACQUANETTA COOK BETTY SUE DEAN BARBARA JEAN FERTIG Our freshman class elected as class officers Tommy Campbell, president; Marsha Trimble, vice-president; Betty Dean, treasurer; and Brenda Winebriner, secretary. We elected Phyllis Brinkley to represent our class in the football queen contest. Marsha Trimble was elected by the Tri-Hi-Y to be District Chaplain. Now, we look forward to our prom and our senior trip and-- at last--graduation. RALPH RINER, JR. DELMAS WOODROW SHAFFIER RONNIE DEAN SMITH RONALD LEE STINNETT MARSHA SUZANNE TRIMBLE BETTY CATHERINE WARD The Halls of Valley These are the halls of Valley That have held our growing, our laughing, our loving. Here we have opened the door to opponents and school friends. Our lives have been molded and torn and rebuilt, but the halls stand unchanged. Now we shall go, never to know them as we have known them before, But something of us will be left here . . . And someday we shall come back. We ' ll walk down these halls when both of us are older, We ' ll stop, and stare and wait But it will not be the same. For our laughter, our heartaches, and our love will have left with our leaving, And no one will know how important it all was to us -- The halls, the study, the dreams, each other. --Twila Williams TWILA ANN WILLIAMS WAYNE FORREST WILLIAMS WALTER MOORE WILLIAMS CAROLYN LOUISE WOODDELL CLASS OFFICERS L. Ten years ago, mere were only 16 million acres of woodlands on the nation ' s accredited Tree Farms. Today, there are almost 50 million acres, a three-fold increase. Each Tree Farm is being operated as a private enterprise, growing trees for a regular cash income, just like any other crop. One of the big reasons why tree farming is a growing business is because the market for wood is growing. Annual consumption of wood products is rising at a steady rate and continues to rise as our economy expands. The country’s tree farmers are able to supply these growing needs because they are employing scientific forestry methods in cutting, harvesting, seeding and through the protection of their timber from fire and disease. This is good news not only for tree farmers and wood-using industries, but also for the nation. West Virginia F u!p and Paper J PRINTING COMPANY • Charlotte, N.
