CLASS HISTORY Entering Valley as seniors, it is time for us to look back over our years spent here. From three elementary schools, we came to Valley in 1954 as a group of seventy. For a few days, until we learned our way around and made friends, we were a subdued and frightened group. We began the eighth grade under the supervision of Mrs. Betty Ward, Miss Mary Emma Smith, and Mr. Johnny Gazzola, Jr. Elected as officers that year were: President- Shirley Woodzell, Vice President-Dennis Byrd, Secretary-Treasurer-Jimmy Brinkley. Charlotte Conner was chosen as our candidate for Football Queen. Delcie Buzzard and Bobby Spinner were May Day attendants. After a vacation, we began the next step to further our knowledge. As Freshmen, we had Miss Patricia Powell and Mrs. Mary Frances Lott for our sponsors. The officers were: President-Bobby Conner, Vice President-Jo Ann Bogan, Secretary-Treasurer- Eddie Creen. Margaret Jenkins was Football Queen candidate. Charlotte Conner and Eddie Fox were Football Cheerleaders, and Janice Ryder and Delcie Buzzard were our Basketball Cheerleaders. When May Day rolled around again, we elected Janice Ryder and Ernie May as our attendants. The main event of the year was the Halloween Party which we had in the gym. In 1956 we entered the new Valley. Our class was still large enough for us to be di¬ vided into two sections with Miss Lucy Ann Mayberry and Mr. Johnny Gazzola, Jr. as spon¬ sors. We elected the following officers: President-Ella Margaret Hornbarger, Vice President-S hirley Woodzell, Secretary-Treasurer-Charlotte Conner, Reporter-Cordon Gay. Our cheerleaders were Charlotte Conner and Janice Ryder. Ella Hornbarger was Football Queen candidate. We had bake sales to help give our treasurer a job. This year a Voice of Democracy contest was held with top honors going to Reba McDaniel. As September rolled around again, and we went back to school as Juniors, we were happy to find that we had Mr. Gazzola as our sponsor. This year was to be one of the busi¬ est we had had. We ordered our class rings and eagerly awaited the day of their arrival. There was much excitement when they came. We chose as our officers: President-Reba McDaniel, Vice President-Jo Ann Bogan, Secretary-Jean Lowry, Treasurer-Cordon Gay, Reporter-Margaret Jenkins. Our junior candidate for football queen was Margaret Jenkins. We had our square dance in October followed by our play, the Cat and Canary , in March, and our Junior and Senior Prom in May. As we entered our senior year we are under the supervision of Mr. Gazzola again. For our fourth and final year, we chose the following officers: President-Jimmy Brinkley, Vice President-Janice Ryder, Secretary-Margaret Jenkins, Treasurer-Jimmy Alt, Re- porter-Maxine Peters. Janice Ryder and Margaret Jenkins, who have become pros, were chosen cheer¬ leaders. Thelma Kellison was elected as Football Queen and we worked harder this year to elect her Maid of Honor. We have as our class flower, the orchid. We selected as our class colors, lavender and white. We have as our motto, Everywhere in life, the true question is not what we do but what we gain. We are looking forward to our Senior Trip and graduation. Of the entering seventy students, only twenty-two are to graduate. 14
