CLASS HISTORY Well, that final day arrived, when we as students from Ashwood, Mitchelltown, and Warm Springs, entered into the famous halls of the Old Valley. For that year we elected the following officer s to head our class of seventy-seven pupils; President-Billy Flesh- man; Vice-President-Madge Hiner; Secretary-Nettie Lou Hodge; Treasurer-Cordelia Liptrap; and Reporter Joan Kellison. From our class we elected Georgie Simpson to s e r v e as our cheer-leader for that year 1954. We felt more apart of Valley as we became Freshmen in the year 1955. The officers heading the list for that year were: President-Madge Hiner; Vice- P r e s i d e n t - Georgie Simpson; and Reporter-Millie Ferrell. We were divided into two sections with Mrs. Burruss and Mrs. Bowen as our sponsors. For our football candidate we elected pretty Madge Hiner. Although our rooms were hard to decorate we were urged to try for a prize. We came out third and received a case of pop for our effort. In the spring May Day came along and we put up Georgie Simpson and George Bryant as our attendants. This came off with a Weiner Roast at the Cascades. We have now climbed the ladder to our Sophomore year. To our pleasure we find M i s s Martha Lou Herman as our class sponsor. As top officers for this year we elected the following: President-George Bryant; Vice-President-Georgie Simpson; Secretary- Margaret McComb; Treasurer -Mary Snead and Reporter-Madge Hiner . To raise money for our class, we sold cow bells and shakers at football games, and also gave a bake sale. The May Day rolling around once again, we elected Nancy Byrd and Leon Madison as our candidates. With eager hearts and bright eyes, the class of 1956 now juniors, entered the halls of the big new Valley under the direction of Mrs. Jean Siple. This year found us with very little money which meant we were to have our biggest and busiest year. Officers elected this year were; President-Billy Fleshman; Vice-President-Jodie Layton; Secretary-Nancy Byrd; Treasurer-June Gaylor and Reporter Earl Williams. With these officers we prepared ourselves to go to work by sponsoring a bake sale, Doug Wilson Show, talent show and square dance to give our treasurer a job and to raise money for our senior trip and to give the seniors a prom. We held a Jodie Rally to raise money for football queen. At the Home Coming game we all proudly watched football captain Dennis Williams crown our candidate Jodie Layton queen, followed that night by a Homecoming Dance which we sponsored. In November we ordered our class rings and eagerly waited for their arrival. At Christmas our class won second prize in the room decoration contest. We sponsored a three-act play, a comedy entitled Brother Goose which proved to be a total succe s s . Finally after four long years of struggle we obtained the positions as seniors in the new beautiful Valley High. We were happy to find Mrs. Jean Siple as our sponsor again. To serve as officers and head our clas s, we elected: President-Billy Fie shman; Vice -President- J u n e Gaylor; S e cretary-Georgie Simpson; Treasurer - Charlotte Carpenter; Chaplain- Margaret Liptrap; Reporter-Earl Williams. We have as our motto, We've just launched- where shall we anchor? Our class flower is the Red Rose. Our poem was written by P. C. Helmintoller . Some of the activities sponsored by the senior class to this present day, are, the square dance, concession at the football game, and the talent show. As we look back to the beginning of football season we elected June Gaylor as one of the attendents, Charlotte Carpenter came in second place winner in the Voice of De¬ mocracy contest. We are looking forward to the many special a c t i v i t i e s yet to come in our senior year such as our trip and senior play. Four years we have looked forward to our graduating year, but now that we have ordered our announcements, and the year is well on its way, we find ourselves not as anxious as we once were, SING GIRLS: 9
