CLASS HISTORY September 1951, sixty-two eighth graders from Ashwood, Mitchelltown, Mountain Grove, and Warm Springs enterthe halls of Valley. The class divides into three groups under the guid¬ ance of Miss Thompson, Mr. Siple and Mrs. Williams. The class elects the following officers: president, Alfred Simpson, vice-president, Jimmy Hively, secretary-treasurer, Mildred Chaplin. The upper classmen enjoy initiation day as we suffer. September 1952 begins the freshman year and finds the group more confidently taking its place in the affairs of Valley. Home room t e a c h e r s are Mrs. Ward and Mr. Mace. We elect Alfred Simpson as president, vice-president, Mildred Chaplin, secretary, Billy Spinner, and treasurer BasilFry. Competition between Miss Thompson ' s literature classes results in a pic¬ nic at the Cascades. September 1953 - Sophomores. Mr.Harrison is sponsor of the entire class in Room 6. This year we elect Carolyn Landes president, Betty Jackson vice-president, Arminta Ward, reporter, Dolly Byrd, treasurer, and Milly Chaplin secretary. To give the treasurer a job, we sponsor a square dance. Nobel McLaughlin is champion speller of the school. She-goes to Fairfield to compete with other spell - ers. With the support of the sophomore class their candidate for football queen, Carolyn Landes, reigns over the homecoming activities. September 1954 - Juniors! With Mrs. Dalton as sponsor, the junior class prepares to go to work. The class officers this year are Jimmy H i v e 1 y, president; vice-president, Alfred Simpson; secretary, Nobel McLaughlin; treasurer, Bobby Fie shman; reporter, Audrey Ford. Again our class comes out on top . Homecoming day we watch Dr. Hornbarger crown Dolly Byrd football queen. The junior class sponsors the Youth Club at Valley High School. We order our class rings in November. Also in November the junior class presents, He Was A Gay Senorita , a comedy play in three acts. The junior home room wins the Christmas decoration prize. The time for the junior-sen¬ ior prom. The banquet is at Three Hills. After this we go to Valley High for the prom. The decorations ar e in the colors of the senior class, red and white. The music is by the Dixie Kats. September 1955 - Seniors - We thought we ' d never make it! After we enjoy the short summer vacation we come back to Valley High to finish our last year. We are happy that Mrs. Dalton is our sponsor again. To serve as head of our class, we elect Bobby Fleshman president. Other officers are vice-president, Ivar Gram, sec¬ retary, Dolly Byrd, treasurer, Alfred Simpson, and reporter Nobel McLaughlin. Upon receiving an invitation from the University of Virginia,we attend a football game at Charlottesville. To help get Mary Jane for football queen we have a Mary Jane rally at Mrs. Dalton ' s home. Con¬ tinuing our winning ways, we elect Mary Jane the 1955 football queen. The senior home room wins the Christmas decoration prize. We are looking forward to the many senior activities this spring, especially the trip to Washington. Graduation day is now foremost in our minds. The day we have looked forward to all the years is almost here. As the day comes nearer, we find that we are not as eager as we once were. 9
