At the end of a storm There ' s a golden sky, And the west silver song of a lark. Walk on, through the wind; Walk on, through the rain; Though your dream be tossed and blown, Walk on, walk on, With hope in your heart; And you ' ll never walk alone; You ' ll never walk alone. Old V. H. S. was once a dull place Til bang we did appear We brightened it up just like the flash Of the nose of Rudolph the deer. The memories of our school days Will always linger dear Parties, dances,--of course athletics Our teams knew naught of fear Now we ' ve finally reached the top, We ' ll sing our Senior Song And as we leaf back through the years, It doesn ' t seem so long. But we know the days roll on , Twill soon be time to part But no matter how we scatter out, We ' ll still be joined in heart. A. H. S. This page is sponsored by FATHER RICHARD B. WASHINGTON 6 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS Bobby Fleshman, President; Ivar Gram, Vice-President; Dolly Byrd, Secretary; Alfred Simpson, Treasurer; Nobel McLaughlin, Reporter. Thir¬ teen of the fifteen boys in the class have participated in at least one of the four sports offered here. In the past four years , the athletes of this class have been on Hornet teams that have won six District O championships. Players and fans alike will remember such games as the 1953 basketball conference finals when Valley edged out a favored Cen¬ tral High team 39-38 in a three minute overtime. As far as top baseball games go, the district crown game with Buchanan, when the Hornets, 4 runs and 2 outs down in the last half of the ninth in ning, roared back to score 5 runs and take the cham¬ pionship, will not soon be forgotten. F ootball players won ' t forget the 1955 White Sulpher game when the Hornets, an 18 point underdog team, rallied to win 22-19, or the 1955 conference championship contest with Troutville, when in a sea of rain and mud, Valley won the eighth crown in 11 years, 37-18. The athletes of this class will always use the fundamentals that they were taught on the practice and playing fields in the game of life. Theseare the bases for sports and life alike; desire to win, deter mination to make the most of opportunities, and sportmanship.
