1980 VALL-EE-HI Editors: Carol Combs Kim Kempster Assistant Editors: Jill McCracken Diana Vollmar Advisor: Mrs. Joy Roberts PICTURE A WORLD Picture a world where the rivers are clear. Where a dunk in the water is Just a block or two from here. And try to think of a way to make it that way. Picture a world of honey warm hate. And the wind playing tag in the playground trees on summer days And try to think of a way to make it that way. Brown frog talkin' to a butterfly. Flowers growin' oh. so high. Skies wide open, stars so near. Just reach up and touch one from here. Everybody, picture a world where little kids run Where the sunshine is pouring love and life on everyone. And try to think of a way to make it that way. Make it that way. make it that way. --Joe Raposo JIM HAND 1962-1979 SPOON RIVER 2 SEATED: D Vellmar. C. Combs. K Kempster. J McCracken ROW 1 M Hicks. Sember Rude, Scott Heikes, SEATED Shawn Cannon. Seniors 1976- 1977 — It is our freshman year and we have all the answers! We started off a typical high school year with a class meeting selecting Scott Herron, president; Brian Fore, vice-president; Laura Evans, secretary-trea- surer; and Kim Kempster, S.C. Rep. Soon home- coming came in focus, and we busily decorated the halls for Spirit Week and a car for our homecom- ing attendants, Kay DeCourcey and Greg Nelson. As the money-making project for the year, we sold magazines with the yearbook staff to boost our bank account from broke” to poor. 1977- 1978 — We are ready to start the second year of our high school career and discovered we didn't have quite all the answers. As usual, we started off the year selecting officers: Kim Kempster, president; Kay DeCourcey, vice-president; Jolyn Swain, secretary- treasurer; and Scott Heikes, S.C. Rep. The sopho- more homecoming attendants were Greg Mason and Carol Combs. Viking stocking hats were sold to the faithful football fans for our sophomore financial undertaking. By the end of the year some of us had our first traffic ticket, written our first term paper, and ordered our own class rings. cers were chosen. Jolyn Swain, president; Steve McKown, vice-president; Mike Cameron, secretary- treasurer; and Paula Helle, S.C. Rep. Next on the agenda were homecoming festivities. Tina Walters and Steve McKown were junior class attendants. The juniors decorated the halls and car to the theme, Close Encounters of the Viking Kind. After selling many candy bars and bags of popcorn, we were ready for prom. Prom was held in Valley High School gym for the first time in the new building The magic date was May 12 and the theme was Nights are Forever.” With the end of the junior year, we were anxiously awaiting next fall! 1979-1980 — Seniors — at last — and now we realize that per- haps we do not know all of the answers. Our dutiful officers were Scott Heikes, president; Shawn Can- non, vice-president; Laura Smith, secretary-trea- surer, and Sember Rude, S.C. Rep. Homecoming was a smash hit (no pun intended) with the decorat- ing of the halls and car. Homecoming Queen and Kihg were Kim Kempster and Kurt Schisler and sen- ior attendants were Sember Rude and Steve Plumber. The juniors entertained at a tremendous prom on April 12 at Western's Heritage Room with the theme, Precious and Few. Prom Queen and King were Dana Howd and James Butler. Looking forward to graduation the class colors were chosen — orange and black and the class flower — white carnation tipped in orange. I am who I am and will pursue my own perfection was the motto chosen by the senior class. Baccalaureate was held on May 25, and finally, the night we all have been waiting for — graduation. The beaming class of 1980 gradu- ated on May 30 rounding off their near perfect schooling at Valley Senior High School. The class of 1980 would especially like to thank their sponsors, Julie Leffelman and Milo Hansen, for their time, effort, and patience. We have many super memories of our four years at Valley High. 30 1978-1979 — We've deci ded that we have a few of the answers and being a junior has a great ring to it.
