Seniors ROW ONE: Steve Halsey, Mike Ehens, Angela O'Brien, Mrs. Chenoweth. ROW TWO: Monty Thompson, Mr. Little. In the fall of 1970 65 scared sophomores entered the doors of Valley Senior High School for the first time and ready for the adventures ahead. Under the guidance of the sponsors, Mrs. Edith Wilcoxen and Mr. Gary Little, the class officers were elected at the first meeting. The officers were: president, Brian Glaser; vice-president, Bob Weber; secretary, Angela O'Brien; treasurer, Linda Watkins; and S. C. representative, Jane Roselle. As tradition would have it, the sophomores went through initiation which was planned by the seniors. What a time, but the opportun- ity would come to plan an initiation in '73. Late fall and plans were made for the Homecoming festivities. Bob Weber and LuAnn Archdale were selected to ride in the decorated car using the theme, Traces of Victory. Events settled into a routine and soon it was time for the last class meeting as sophomores. At that meeting class rings were ordered to be delivered in the fall. In the fall of 1971 the class again walked through the doors of Valley Senior High School--not as scared sophomores but as jolly juniors. Class officers were selected with Brian Glaser as president; Danny Donaldson, vice-president; Angela O'Brien, secretary; Jane Roselle, treasurer, and Monty Thompson, S. C. representative. The sponsors for the junior year were Mrs. Anna Chenoweth and Mr. Gary Little. Class rings soon arrive--some students soon lost their rings while others decided to keep their own. To represent the juniors for Homecoming, Debbi Melvin and Randy Way were chosen to ride in the car decorated in the theme, Color Our World With A Viking Victory. Earning a huge amount of money to finance the Junior-Senior Prom kept the class members busy all year. After much work, planning, and preparation came the highlight of the year—Junior-Senior Prom. The Prom was held on April 8 at the Sheraton Inn in Galesburg using the theme, We've Only Just Begun. The theme proved true as the juniors staged a first! An allnight Prom. After the evening at Sheraton Inn the group traveled to Northgate Lanes where the night was spent bowling, playing pool, dancing, and winning prizes. At 5:00 a.m., a sleepy group emerged from Northgate with a wealth of memories of the 1972 occasion. For the climax of the junior year, a bus was chartered to Chicago where such places as the Museum of Science and Industry, O'Hara Airport and Old Town were visited. On August 24, 1972, the sophisticated seniors walked proudly through the doors of Valley Senior High School. This was the last time a senior class would enter the old high school building. The first class meeting of the year was brought to order by President Steve Halsey. Other officers for the senior year were Mike Ehens, vice-president; Angela O'Brien, secretary; Debbi Dowell, treasurer; and Monty Thompson, S. C. representative. Thoughts soon turned to Homecoming and the last football season. Riding in the decorated senior car were senior attendants, Donna Gooding and John Courson. Seniors Angela O'Brien and Monty Thompson reigned as Queen and King over the Homecoming celebration. On April 28 the juniors entertained the seniors at the Junior-Senior Prom, Precious and Few, which was held at the Holiday Inn and later at Northgate for the all-night party. LuAnn Archdale and Danny Donaldson were chosen as Queen and King of the affair. The last event that the seniors will attend as a class at Valley will be graduation. The class chose dark blue and light blue as its colors, white rose for the flower and To- morrow Is Ours as the class motto. Members of the class won many awards—Cynthia Herbert and Brian Glaser were selected GRA and SAR winners; Brian Glaser and Margie Meyer were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian for 1973. May brought to a close the three years spent at Valley High. The class of '73 will not have a building to return to for a visit, but they will have many fond memories to recall. 6
