In the fall of 1964. sixty-eight sophomores, scared but willing to try, entered the doors of Valley for their first attempt at high school life. At our first meeting, we elected the following officers: Rick Bowen. President; Randy Hurst, V. President; Margaret Sampson. Sec.-Treas.; and Roger Rask. Student Council Representative. Mrs. Kennelly and Mr. Keithley, our class spon- sors. helped us get settled in our new surroundings and then more confusion set in: our class initia- tion! It turned out to be a great success, at least that's what the upperclassmen said. We didn’t quite agree but everyone had fun. At our first alley Homecoming. Janet Shortness and Roger Rask represented our class. The car was decorated to the theme of “Lily of the Valley.” With the help of our junior varsity cheerleaders. Rita O’Brien, Mug Sampson, and Dixie Simons, we cheered Valley on to many victories in football and basketball. At our first meeting as Juniors, we elected our class officers. They were: Rick Bowen. President; Brian Kennelly, Vice-President; Margaret Sampson, Secretary; Janet Shortness, Treasurer; Mike Thur- man, Student Council Representative. Riding in our car. decorated to the theme “Deep Purple”, were our Junior Homecoming attendants, Margaret Sampson and Rick Bowen. On December 17, our Junior class presented OUR TOWN by Thornton Wilder. It took much time and effort but with the help of Mrs. Pickering, our director, the play was a big success. Just before Christmas, our class rings arrived. It was a joyous occasion for all whether they lost their ring or got someones in return. Our prom was held April 30 with the theme “Evening in Oriental Gardens.” The week after the prom, we went on our annual Junior trip to Chicago. W:e will always remember the cartwheels on the streets of Chicago and the tours in the museums. At our last meeting for our Junior year, we chose our Senior class officers for the 1966 - 67 school year. They were: Brian Kennelly, Presi- dent; Marsha Johnson, Secretary; Melinda Hartstirn. Treasurer; and Roger Rask. Student Council Repre- sentative. Then our thoughts turned to homecoming and our last football season. The Senior car was deco- rated to the theme of “Till There Was You”, and riding in the car were the Senior attendants, Ken- dall Irons and Mike Thurman. The Student Council decorated the car for the King and Queen. The theme, “Sitting on Top of the World”, was very appropriate for Brian Kennelly and Dixie Simons, the King and Queen for 1966 -i967. At the end of the first semester we chose Janet Shortness and Rick Bowen for the D.A.R. and S.A.R. awards. As graduation and baccalaureate is quickly de- scending upon us, we will graduate wearing our colors, maroon and white, with our flower, the white rose. Our announcements have our class colors on them and our motto is “Truth is the Highest Thing That Man May Keep”. As we look back over our three years at Valley, we begin to really appreciate the helpful advice our Valley faculty has given us. We’d like to give special thanks to our two sponsors, Mrs. Kennelly and Mr. Keithley, for without them we couldn’t say our history is complete. U SHARON ALLEN Contentment is happiness. Compliments of GRIEVE LUMBER AND SUPPLY, St. Augustine 32 Compliments of FAIRVIEW FABRICATING AND SUPPLY, Foirview Class Prophecy The Conference of Commerce and Manufacture was held July 14, 1997, in the plush Conrad-Hil- ton Hotel owned by three spinsters—Sharon Allen. Mug Sampson, and Sharon Yocum—in Canton. Illi- nois. We were welcomed to that fair city by the honorable Rick Bowen, its Republican mayor. Since one of the avowed purposes of the annual Confer- ence is to become better acquainted with new busi- ness trends and products. Mayor Bowen asked Miss Debbie Brashear to rise. She had just patented a fiber from which she manufactures indestructible hosiery. Also in the audience were Phil Con Ion. author of the new Betty Crocker Cookbook: Jim Suvdam. the famous writer of tragedies: Jim Nev- ille, antique Studebaker dealer; and Mary Anne Mitchell, president of the Vita-Pep Vitamin Com- pany. Our first lecture, entitled “Agriculture in Today's Business World” was presented by Merrill Mel- ton. director of the National Agriculture Scholar- ship Committee. He was assisted by co-directors Mike Stufflebean. Freddie Rench. owner of the famed Rench Thoroughbred Horse Ranch; and the former Theresa Bale, who operates a huge hay farm. Mike Beoletto. a commercial grower of nat- ural Christmas trees, also spoke on this subject. At the end of this lecture, Linda Schuman. the doorkeeper (still wearing a Valley letterman jacket) admitted late-comers: the former Susan Harn. who had married the operator of a modern dance studio; Richard Mitchell, the manufacturer of realistic duckcalls; Karen Thompson and Sandra Moody, co- owners of Artsy Art Supplies Company; and Janet Shortness, who manufactures authentic footbridges. Mayor Bowen announced that our next speaker was to have been that great orator and advocate of women’s rights, Sally Leffingwell. but she had con- tracted laryngitis. Instead, we would be led in a discussion of economic principles by Professor Vicki Cook and Doctor Marsha Lefler. who had re- ceived their Ph. D.’s from Harvard. During this discussion, mention was made of the progressive business practices employed by Brian Kennellv. who manufactures green and silver class rings, and Bennie Knox, who has revolutionized the field of undertaking. Suddenly Mayor Bowen rushed to the podium and excitedly announced that 1 .aura Marklev's Lotus had just defeated Marsha Johnson's Chevy for first place in the International Powder Puff Racing Com- petition. Miss Markley had modestly given all this credit to her pit crew. Bob Marvel and Chuck Vlvers. and to her experiences in G.A.A. After this stupendous news, the group needed some relaxing entertainment. It was provided in the form of music by the “Despicables.” Ronnie Llm played tambourine, Skip Hartstim was soloist, and Allen Morse and Dick Sharpshair were Go-Go danc- ers. Terry Chappel. a former member of the group, is now giving voice lessons to opera singers. For a change-of-pace in music, we enjoyed a ballet by Kathv Kidwell. Linda Ludwig and Susan Wooddell entitled “Grecian Urns.” 33 Compliments of LORRAINE’S, London Mills Compliments of AVON DRUG STORE, Avon Class Prophecy The importance of education in any enterprise wae our next topic. Robbie Phipps is still a check-out boy at one of the Tiezzi supermarkets, and Rick Young. who flunked out of college, is running the London Mills pool hall with Tony Smith. The physical fit- ness aspect of education was stressed by those famous P. E. teachers. Dorothy Ruberg and Kathy Roselle, and by Dixie Simons, operator of a school for solo cheerleaders. After these interesting and informative speakers, Mayor Bowen announced that we would be favored with a dance routine by Sandra and Henrietta, the famous Gray Sisters Broadway act. He was inter- rupted by a scream from our doorwoman! A band of Hell's Angels, led by Roger Rask in a black leather jacket, came crashing into the meeting hall. Mayor Bowen turned just in time to see the members jumping out of the windows. “Meeting Adjourned The Committee Baby Snaps Ronnie Ulm Linda Beckett Sandy Gray Terry Chappel Linda Overton Janet Shortness Mike Thurman Compliments of ROBERT WHITE PHOTOGENIC STUDIO, London Mills Compliments of VALLEY RADIO T.V., Foirview Baby Snaps Rick Young Marcia Tiezzi Dixie Simons Compliments of LONDON MILLS FEED SERVICE, BOB LOLA TRONE, London Mills Compliments of ROOT FUNERAL HOME, Fairview 35 Baby Snaps Jim Suydam Bob Marvel Vicki Cook Ben Knox Karen Thompson Sally Leffingwell Larry Wilson Laura Markley 36 Junior Snaps Becky and Frank enjoying the Christmas dance.
