Class Officers Seated: Mrs. Rasmussen, Bill Downing, Mr. Bennett Standing: Irene Kuggles, Elaine Stairwalt, Don Voorhees, Debbie Day One day late in August of 1963, our class of sixty-four eager but uncertain students entered Valley in their new role as sopho- mores. After acquiring a sense of belonging, we had to undergo both sophomore initiation and those of various organizations. At our first class meeting, we met our sponsors, Mrs. Sarah Rasmussen and Hendry Bennett. We elected the following as our class offi- cers: Kyle Kennelly, president; Leanne Grice, vice-president; Carol Sherman, secretary- treasurer; Bill Downing, student council representative. As the Homecoming activi- ties approached, Irene Ruggles and Jim Melton were elected as queen and king at- tendants. Everything is Coming up Roses was the sophomore car theme. As the year progressed, we, full-pledged members of Valley, attended many school activities. One of these activities was our sophomore party held April 7, 1964, to get better acquainted with our fellow classmates. When our sophomore year drew to a close, we eagerly looked forward to being upper- classmen. Our junior year opened with Lyle Schuman presiding as president; Jim Melton, vice-president; Jane Timmons, secretary; Elaine Stiarwalt, treasurer; and Erma Ulm, student council representative. For our Homecoming float, our theme was When You Wish Upon a Star with Jackie Timmons and Kyle Kennelly as the attendants. After a seemingly long wait, we received our class rings with the usual exchange of rings follow- ing. In November we proudly presented our junior class play entitled Room and Bored . After a hard year's work in the junior stand, we were able to finance our junior-senior banguet and prom entitled In Camelot . One 16 of the many highlights of the decorations was a fish pond filled with goldfish and coins. After careful planning and diligent work, our efforts were rewarded as we danced to the music of Billy Hill and his orchestra. We ended our year with the annual junior class trip to Chicago. After a long, but enjoyable day, we arrived home recalling the numerous sites and unforgettable experiences of our excursion. In the fall of 1965, the doors of Valley were embarked by the senior class of 1966. Our new slate of officers were Bill Downing, president; Elaine Stiarwalt, vice-president; Debbie Day, secretary; Don Voorhees, treas- urer; and Irene Ruggles, student council rep- resentative. While we decorated our float Some Enchanted Evening for the queen and king attendants, Jackie Timmons and Bill Downing, the Student Council decorated the Golden Knight for Gloria Timmons and Vincent Knox, our Homecoming Queen and King. Besides sponsoring our annual Christ- mas dance, we were also engaged in many other activities. In January we selected D.A.R. and S.A.R. winners — Leanne Grice and Kyle Kennelly, respectively. Our thoughts then turned to graduation. We selected blue and white as our class colors, a white carnation tipped with blue as our flower and our motto Zeal Without Knowledge is Fire Without Light. Too soon, we will be marching down the aisle for Baccalaureate on May 29. On June 1 1966, we proudly and happily receive our diplomas. We have great anticipation for our lives in the future, but we cannot help looking back to our life here at Valley. We owe a special word of thanks to Mrs. Rasmussen and Mr. Bennett, our class sponsors, who made our life here easier.
