Senior Class Officers ROW ONE: Sharon Wilson. Mary Jo Miller, Herschel McDonnough. ROW TWO: Lynn Utsinger, Phil Miller. ROW THREE: Mr. Messmore. Mr. Little. Senior Class History The fifty-three frightened but anticipating sophomores will long remember that autumn day in 1960 when they entered those open doors of Valley for the first time. Our most important activities as soph- omores were learning to place the new names with all the unfamiliar faces, initiation, and electing class officers. They were: president, Curtis Donaldson; secretary, Pat Neville; treasurer, Earl Ferry, Student Council Representative, Lynn Utsinger. We excitedly planned and decorated our homecoming float A Vote for Valley” and gave our votes for king and queen attendants to Regina Morse and Jim Young. All in all, we discovered that our sophomore year had been an entertaining, as well as informative one, but we were all anxiously looking forward to our following year as upperclassmen. Our junior class officers were: president, Ivan Gordon; vice president, Marion Stuckey; secretary, Norma Dunn; treasurer, Sandra Roberts; Student Council Representative, Kristine Lafferty. When the homecoming arrived, we chose Marion Stuckey and Phyllis Davis as the junior attendants on our float Pennies from Heaven . Our long-awaited class rings arrived and we unanimously agreed that they were the prettiest yet. We later had a lot of hard work but also a lot of fun, rehearsing and staging our play We Shook the Family Tree. During noon hours and at football games we spent many hours working in the junior stand to make money to help finance the junior-senior prom and banquet. Sooner than it seemed possible, prom time had arrived. Hours and hours went into the planning and decorating for our prom and banquet Shangri-La . By the end of this unbelievably busy year, all were ready for some relaxation— and relaxation we found. It was in the form of our Chicago trip—much fun, many experiences, and a closer unity among our classmates. The much awaited year arrived—finally we were seniors. We were ready to tackle all the problems, responsibilities, and enjoyment that was alloted solely to the seniors. President Lynn Utsinger led our list of officers which was also composed of: vice president, Sharon Wilson; secretary, Herschel McDonnough; treasurer, Mary Jo Miller; and Student Council Representative, Phillip Miller. Queen Marcy Murphy and King Jon Owens were given the honor of reigning over this year's Homecoming. Class pictures arrived just in time to exchange them before Christmas. At Christmas we co-sponsored the Dance with the Alumni. Soon graduation became the main topic of we seniors. We chose our flower to be a white carnation tipped with blue; our class colors are blue and white. Our class and the faculty selected Marcy Murphy as D.A.R. winner and Herschel McDonnough as S.A.R. winner. Baccalaureate on May 26 and Commencement on May 29 concluded our three years at Valley. We are grateful to Mr. Little for his three years' of guidance and to e each Mrs. Luxner, Mr. Carter and Mr. Messmore for his one year of help.
