CLASS HISTORV Nothing Great Was Ever Achieved Without Enthusiasm was the motto of the class of '55. We were not particularly noted for our talent or accomplishments, but like other typical teen-agers, we had plenty of enthusiasm. Our history began when as 64 humble sophomores, we entered senior high school. We were a bit confused during the first week, but soon got into the swing of things; joined organizations, and made new friends. For our class officers we selected Stanley Etter, president; Terry Douglass, secretary; David Mason, trea- surer; Marlene Wood, student council representative; and Harold Smith, parlia- mentarian. Our standing advisors were Mr. Maxey and Mr. Keach. The first party we sponsored was a skating party held in Canton. Soon it was Homecoming time, and Fayrene Woods and David Mason were the sophomore candidates for king and queen. Our junior year we discovered, was to be a busy one. First there were class rings to decide upon, and then the junior play, Skidding. Serving as class officers were Harold Smith, president; LeRoy Roberts, secretary; Helen Higgs, trea- surer; Carolyn McDonnough, student coun- cil representative; and John Craver, par- liamentarian. We elected Helen Higgs and Bill Cannon to represent us at Homecoming. We also took time out to sponsor an all school Barn Party, and then proceeded to make plans for the Prom. We used a Rainbow theme which was very effective and which featured an outdoor cafe where refreshments were served. After running the concession stand all year, we were rewarded by taking our hard-earned money to Chicago where we stayed at the Palmer House. We became a bit too familiar with the back stairways, perhaps, but everyone had a swell time. All too soon, it was our senior year, and it seemed that time had certainly flown since we had come to Valley. Our final class officers were Larry Rench, president; Ruth Anderson, secretary; Naomi Barker, treasurer; Dale Ander- son, student council representative; and Dick Hahn, parliamentarian. Every- one got spruced up on September 15, and senior pictures were taken. Home- coming was pretty important to us this year since Eleanor Ball and Dick Hahn were elected king and queen. To top it off, we defeated Southeastern 7-0 in our Homecoming game, so we were all in good spirits. When March rolled around it was time for the senior play, and Ever Since Eve went over very well. As our days at Valley grew num- bered we proceeded to plan for Senior night. Baccalaureate, and finally on May 27, our graduation. Marlene Wood was chosen for the D.A.R. award, and Stanley Etter received the boys' citizen- ship award. So at last we say good-bye” to dear old Valley, where we have all had some wonderful times, and with our motto Nothing Great Was Ever Achieved Without Enthusiasm as our guide, we push on to future goals. Compliments of DR. KEITH H. FRANKHAUSER Avon, Illinois
