But, coming from the Spanish A Club, things tie in more with hola. The Spanish Club, under the guidance of Ad- r viser Miriam Smyth, worked very hard this year to get students familiarized with Spanish customs, foods, and all around fun. They met after school every Tuesday to plan their activities. These plan- ned activities included eating at Mexican restaurants, going on sightseeing trips, and par- ticipating in Hispanic Week. President Lisa Glassford said, We just try to have a lot of fun! Q

Mr. Robert Salchert is the teacher and advisor for this class. Students learned different styles and techniques in writing so they could put their feelings on paper. The students also learned how to write their own poetry, short stories, and one act plays. During the year, the students had the chance to submit their works to different National literary magazines and to compete for scholarships. At the end of the 83-84 school year, the students published Valley Voices, the school literary magazine. The club wrote, edited, and published the book in which all Valley Students had the op- portunity to submit their works. C S

The Human Relations Club works toward the goal of promoting better relations between dif- 4 , -'g '--., ferent groups at Valley. Black History Week is the 1 , 7 annual event sponsored by the club, it took place y,f'f-ag R g.t '-f February 13 through the 17. There were activities ' ' conducted throughout the week, including an V assembly and a fashion show banquet featuring N ' 1 the latest fashions worn by the club members. Miss Peyton, the advisor, states, We have a really good group this year, and the main focus is to become a more active part of Valley High School. The president is Traci Smith, vice president is Mike O'NeiIp treasurer is Cheryl Hosley, and the sergeant-at-arms is Deshay Addison. H R I 159
