'3 Z -....:, ' i V Marcello DeIGiudice, Melissa Maasch, Michelle Kline, Stephanie Cooper, Rodney Beckwith, Kim Christy, Richard Cizmas, Ilene Harnisch, Greg Crosby, Paul Eaton, Charlie Casella, Barbara Bromley, Araann Ushler, Michelle Hogan, lulie McDonough, Mike Katz, and Danny Burns. Not pictured: Editor-in-Chief Shannon Brown. Thor's Hammer, alias ValIey's school newspaper, was made up of a group of talented individuals. The lournalism Il class was the newspaper staff and was advised by Mr. Grant T. Smith. Thor's Hammer students not only learned how to write and edit their stories, they also learned to accept the responsibility of meeting the dreaded deadline. Each year the paper has special issues, such as a mer Homecoming issue, a Christmas or All I want for Christmas issue, and a Senior issue, in which TH sells senior wills. Assistant Editor Kim Christy said, I think the staff in general made a big effort to produce a real- ly good paper. We tried to offer articles that were both iformative and entertaining. I believe we suc- ceeded and that we had the best high school newspaper in Las Vegas.

Fourth row: Margaret Splawn, Tommy Morrison, Tyrone Thompson, Todd Phillips, Scott Stavrou, and Darrell Silvis. '? W Do you have an inherent barrier? Can you A document Solvency? Are your harms 1 and 2 significant? If not, you must not be in Gavel Club. Valley High's debate team competed at different high schools in Las Vegas. They also 'U traveled to tournaments in San Diego, Arizona, and Reno. The purpose of the club is to raise funds to travel to the out-of-town tournaments. With the talents of top debaters Damencele DiPasqua and Margaret Splawn, Valley often dominated local and out-of-town tour- naments. In Lincoln-Douglas debate, Greg Koppe and Scott Stavrou showed competitors that Valley has the skill to win. ln individual event categories, once again Damencele DiPasqua and lodi Herman showed their stuff and took top honors. Creative Writers Refine Skills, Proudl Publish Valley Voices X. -... v, I ,, ,, if XX . , , g -9 Q, V Qzlg. ,, 1, ssh Toni Silver, Cristi Gonzalez, Beth Remmert, Patti Mielke, and Melissa Maasch. 1, , JS, U' X 1 v If you ever had the itch to use a creative pen, Creative Writing is the club for you. Mr. Robert Salchert is the teacher and advisor for this class. Students learned different styles and techniques in writing so they could put their feelings on paper. The students also learned how to write their own poetry, short stories, and one act plays. During the year, the students had the chance to submit their works to different National literary magazines and to compete for scholarships. At the end of the 83-84 school year, the students published Valley Voices, the school literary magazine. The club wrote, edited, and published the book in which all Valley Students had the op- portunity to submit their works. C S
