ValIey's lazz Band was a very important part of the 1984 music group. Hosting ChaparraI's band, they held a concert in the Little Theatre, they played at Open House, and they participated in VaIIey's Christmas Concert. In February the band competed in Flagstaff, Arizona, and represented Valley with pride. To get into lazz Band is not an easy task. After an audition, you are accepted into the group. By learning to play all types of upbeat tunes, lazz Band members learned to appreciate a new type of music. When I soloed, I had the opportunity to ex- press my feelings through music, said Tomiko Lindner. The above quote expressed the feelings of the lazz Band throughout 1984. They were painted by the talented students known as Students for an Artistic Society. This club enjoyed drawing, painting, and doing anything that had to do with art. During the '83-'84 school year SAS reached many goals. They painted the senior mural Born to Soar, the new science mural on the ramp, and they also painted Valley's annual Christmas card which was placed on the corner of Vegas Valley and Eastern. Pat Carter, vice president of SAS said, This group has an unquenchable thirst to beautify Valley and the community. lf you looked around Valley, you would have seen how true this was. SAS 141
