erforms at Half-time Review The Valley Viking United Marching Machine was a great part of Valley's spirit. The band performed at all home games and zone games, and they par- ticipated in the assemblies and the spirit stick competitions. At the beginning of the year, they participated in a festival in California and placed well. In October they represented the school at the Half-time Review at the Silver Bowl. Many hours of early practice on both music and routines, under the direc- tion of Mr. Al Smith, provided Viking fans with great performances that helped raise the spirit levels and entertained spectators. w wf'-I ,V f , X W vibi' x f ' ,, fi A . ValIey's lazz Band was a very important part of the 1984 music group. Hosting ChaparraI's band, they held a concert in the Little Theatre, they played at Open House, and they participated in VaIIey's Christmas Concert. In February the band competed in Flagstaff, Arizona, and represented Valley with pride. To get into lazz Band is not an easy task. After an audition, you are accepted into the group. By learning to play all types of upbeat tunes, lazz Band members learned to appreciate a new type of music. When I soloed, I had the opportunity to ex- press my feelings through music, said Tomiko Lindner. The above quote expressed the feelings of the lazz Band throughout 1984.
