It involves up to 49 stu- dents and is highlighted by the selection of two of the most out-standing students in their topics. The first group of seven write articles on their topics to be placed in the Sun. The second group give reports on their subjects on TV 8. Varsity Quiz 4 Varsity Quiz is an organization which provides students who are aca- demically talented an opportunity to compete with their peers in city-wide competitions. The students must rely on quick recall as well as in-depth knowledge in at least ten categories as diverse as chemistry and sports. The high schools are divided into two groups. Valley plays Gorman, Basic, Chaparral, Rancho, and Boulder City. Some games are televised while others are played at the various schools. The winning school from Clark County meets the winners from Orange County, Calif., for the championship. The Kiwanis Club, which sponsors the entire affair, offers scholarships to the victorious team. Advisers are Mrs. Benoit and Mrs. Lane. Las Vegas Youth Advisory Council .A.Y.C.C. -.Wm L-R: Kim Palmer, Tracey Deringer, and Renae Deringer. The Las Vegas Youth Council is a community organization sponsored by the Las Vegas Youth Affairs Office. The Council is composed of members from each high school throughout Clark County. Its activities have in- cluded cleaning and painting the city parks, sponsoring the Holiday Special at the Convention Center, and recog- nizing outstanding youth at the an- nual Youth Day. These girls also form the District Attorneys Youth Citizen Council, which is also a community organiza- tion.
