Ur. Charles lluss. |)rinci[)al. kll Saiila Ana Valley Senior High School in March. When Valley first opened in 1959, Dr. Hess was one of the original teachers at Valley. In 1963 he became head of the math depart- ment. He also served as head basketball coach; and, when Ed Caruthers played. Dr. Hess took his team to GIF finals. In 1966 Dr. Hess became assistant principal of instruction. In 1968 he became Valley ' s principal. In college Dr. Hess obtained two bachelor degrees in math and science. In 1961 he earned his Master ' s Degree in Educational Administration and achieved a Doctorate Degree in School Finance in 1969. The school has much to thank Dr. Hess for, but we students have more. He was a man dedicated to the student body. This view is evident in this statement from Dr. Hess. I have had the privilege and pleasure of l)cing a pari ol the growlli ol alk Higli School. I have seen many fine accomplish- ments by the students and faculty. Many , problems have been met and solved. I will always remember the many fine athletic teams and the athletes on tliese teams; but, foremost in my mind, will be two outstanding projects which were con- ceived and completed by the students and staff. These were the drives for new band uniforms and the purchase of the van for Victor Rivera. These two projects epitomize the best in cooperative effort and our con- cern for our fellow man. We thank you, Dr. Hess, for your great contributions to Valley High School. We know that you will be successful in anything you attempt to do. To Dr. Charles Hess, we the TALON staff, dedicate the 1970 TALON.
