Students Tr BigBarn Registration for Second Year Big barn registration, football, volley- ball, and cross- country made September ex- citing. The first win ofthe football season was the Viking victory over Belen, 27-22. Debbie Brancla, a three-year varsity volley- ball player, was one of the outstanding play- ers of September, as well as the season. The State Fair parade and a visit from the Chihuahua Band added special highlights to the month. Both the marching band and Vi- kettes marched in the parade. The Chihuahua Band arrived September 18, just in time for the Valley-Belen game. September also got the sophomores off to a good start with B-team cheerleader tryouts. Chosen were Kim Blachly, Susan Sandoval, Theresa Garcia, Delfina DeLeon, Troyce Sis- neros, Troylyn Sisneros. ' T IJ . Summer? A vacation? Says who? During the sum- mer, preparation for the coming year was already in full swing. Many students had summer iobs, went on vacations, and iust had a good time, but many more students were looking ahead to their '76'77 year at Valley High. Athletic teams were involved in summer programs to condition themselves for the coming football, basket- ball, baseball, swimming, and tennis seasons. The Homecoming plans were already underway. Meetings were held once a week in homes of members of the committee. The Varsity-six had a very busy summer. They at- tended a clinic at UNM for a week and got their pro- gram together for their 76-77 year. Twelve students and sponsors, from Valley, went on a European study tour to occupy their summer time l - Gail Saavedra passes her summer time selecting books from the library. 2 - Leonard Roybal plays a little round ball to stay in condi- tion for the upcoming season. 3 - With the Renaissance city of Flor- ence in the background, Ms. Sharon Ball exhibits a mixture of ex- haustion and pride after having climbed the 400 stairs to the top of the dome of the Cathedral. 4 - Darrell Powell works on his butterfly stroke at the Valley pool. 5 - First place city league softball team, Hot Stuff, players are bottom row Susan Garcia, Vicki Peacock, Gloria Griego, Nettie Gutierrez, Kathy Lamkin, top row Assistant Coach Mark Salazar, Shirley Salazar, Pearl Chavez, Renee Beach, CeCe Griego, Mercy Montoya, Margaret Juarros, and Head Coach, Jerry Chavez. 6 - A balloon silently floats over the school on a cool sum- mer morning. 7 - Ms. Barbara Salazar-Jaynes enjoys her nice, big ice cream sundae on a hot clay in Florence, Italy. 8 - Clutching his trip iournal, Alain Archuleta catches a few moments of sleep on the bus trip from Rome to Florence. 9 - On a mid-summer afternoon, Mercy Montoya scarfs at McDonalds. 10 - Many Viking students and faculty resorted to McDonald's for their summer breaks.
