Careers Nights ponsored By Counselors nikr .. Mr. Copeland talks to student about her future plans. This year counselors went around to each senior history class giving them information about college. To some it was frightening, but others looked forward to it. Students wishing to attend college were informed by the counselors to take their ACT and SAT tests if necessary. The students were also given information about vocational schools. The counselors also sponsored College Day, Finan- cial Aids Night, and Technical Careers Night. There were twenty-five colleges represented at College Day. This year all activities of this sort took place after school. This was due to the new change of rules. Financial Aids Night concerned the students and their parents. This was to help certain students with financial problems. And as in the past, the counselor's main objective was to help the students. Sophomores and seniors were offered English courses Cone and one-half credits eachy which totaled three credits fulfilling English require- ments for graduation. The junior class was exempt from taking this course. Career-oriented courses were also being initiated at Valley this year, one of which was taught by Mrs. Ash- baugh. Practical English offered appreciation of literature and commu- nication. This course was primarily for seniors. It was mostly for students who were not planning to attend col- lege. Responses from student evalua- tions were both positive and negative but overall the course proved to be interesting and informative. 2030 was a new course of English and world history taught by Miss Wil- liams and Mrs. Jennings respectively. The directed studies program for the second year was expanding. The curriculum consisted of the students working at an individual and different pace from that of the classroom.
