College Pay, Financial Aids And Vocational Back from last year's counseling were Shelby Copland, Bill Craig, Floyd Vasquez, and Betsy Yost. San- dra Shoon was a newcomer to the counseling department but not to Val- ley. She had been here eight years and this was her first as a counselor. Mr. Copeland, Mr. Craig and Miss Yost have all been counselors tor four and three years respectively. Mr. Vasquez was in his second year. Bar- bara Pino was in her second year as counselor secretary. This year the counselors experi- mented vvith a nevv appointment sys- tem. Instead of the students leaving their schedules with the counselor to see him at his convenience, they went to Mrs. Pino and made an appointment tor a certain day and time. The students then received a slip to show their teacher the time ot the appointment. . Careers Nights ponsored By Counselors nikr .. Mr. Copeland talks to student about her future plans. This year counselors went around to each senior history class giving them information about college. To some it was frightening, but others looked forward to it. Students wishing to attend college were informed by the counselors to take their ACT and SAT tests if necessary. The students were also given information about vocational schools. The counselors also sponsored College Day, Finan- cial Aids Night, and Technical Careers Night. There were twenty-five colleges represented at College Day. This year all activities of this sort took place after school. This was due to the new change of rules. Financial Aids Night concerned the students and their parents. This was to help certain students with financial problems. And as in the past, the counselor's main objective was to help the students.
