Valley got its third vice principal, and its first woman administrator in several years with the addition of Marlene Dunaway. She is a graduate of the University of New Mexico with a BS. in Mathematics and an MS. in school Administration. Marie Hayes, the student activities director, had a really busy year as it was one of the most active years ever at Valley. The most noticable difference in this year's administration procedures was the change of policy relating to attendance. Instead of calling a stu- dent to the attendance office for skip- ping class, when a student gets five unexcused absences in a class his grade was dropped a letter grade. Whether a student was excused or not was left up to the individual and his teacher. Another difference, much to the delight of the student body, was an open campus during lunch. Students were not restricted to the school grounds and could eat anywhere they wanted. College Pay, Financial Aids And Vocational Back from last year's counseling were Shelby Copland, Bill Craig, Floyd Vasquez, and Betsy Yost. San- dra Shoon was a newcomer to the counseling department but not to Val- ley. She had been here eight years and this was her first as a counselor. Mr. Copeland, Mr. Craig and Miss Yost have all been counselors tor four and three years respectively. Mr. Vasquez was in his second year. Bar- bara Pino was in her second year as counselor secretary. This year the counselors experi- mented vvith a nevv appointment sys- tem. Instead of the students leaving their schedules with the counselor to see him at his convenience, they went to Mrs. Pino and made an appointment tor a certain day and time. The students then received a slip to show their teacher the time ot the appointment. .
