Year of Crisis Faces A. .S. Faced with heavier enrollments and a shortage of funds the Albuquerque Public Schools under the direction of the Board of Education and Superintendent Robert Chis- holm had enormous problems to undertake this year. The board called for a special election in December to place a surtax on county in- comes to help for a temporary solution to the problems. Also many plans were made for the regu- lar session of the legislature which it was hoped would help solve many of the prob- lems. A new high school for the northeast heights was funded from a bond issue last year and is to be opened for the 1970 school year. Two New Leaders for Valley Valley began its fifteenth year with a ' completely new administration. David D. White was appointed Valley's fourth prin- cipal, during the summer, to replace Ralph Dixon who moved to a position at the A.P.S. Central Office. Mr, White, who attended the University of New Mexico, has been with the public schools system since 1952. He was pre' viously principal of Madison Iunior High for nine years. Bert Everett was named Valley's vice-prin- cipal last spring to take the place of Marion Ferguson who had served as Valley's vice- principal since its opening. Mr. White and Mr. Everett have made an effective team and Valley's year ran smoothly from the beginning. The two spend much of their time planning for curriculum changes, taking care of major discipline problems, and other problems which arise in a school of some 1,900 students and a staff of 92. DAVID D. WHITE, Valley's fourth principal, took over the ad- ministration of Valley High during last summer. , Valley's principal and assistant prin- f I ft cipal give leadership and wisdom with- in the school. With the combination of both of these, an atmosphere of learn- ing, teaching and working together is created. Mr. White and Mr. Everett work to form a union in which they can guide Vikings into the future, knowing that they have given them a sturdy foundation. BERT EVERETT serves as vice-principal and helps David White with administrative problems.
