Bishop ... Biology Teacher Award - Mrs. Janet Biefeld has been at Valley for the past two years teaching General English, 11th grade. Mrs. Biefeld was raised in Michigan; she is a graduate of Western Michigan Univer- sity with a Bachelor of Arts de- gree. Her hobbies are modern jazz, reading, foreign films, and occasionally she has her own radio program. Mr. Harry L. Bishop has been with Valley for the last ten years teaching Biology I and Biology II. Mr. Bishop, born in Emporia, Kansas, received his Master of Science from Em- poria, Kansas State Teachers College. His hobbies include photography. He was New Mexico ' s Biology Teacher of the Year for 1962-3. A newcomer to Valley this year is Mr. Jon Timothy Black, who teaches Physics and Mathematics and co- sponsors the senior class. Mr. Black is from Mon- mouth, Illinois, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Edu- cation from Western Illi- nois University. Mr. Black is interested in reading and flying. Mr. Robert W. Blagg, a new- comer to Valley ' s faculty, teaches U. S. History, foot- ball, and wrestling. Mr. Blagg, who was bom in Mayville, Missouri, but raised in Albuquerque, re- ceived his Bachelor of Arts in Education from the U. N. M. His hobbies are sports. Mr. John Brady, who teaches Physical Science, is in his second year at Valley. He was born in Phila- delphia, Pennsylvania. Mr. Brady holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Science Education and a Master of Science in Geology and Chemistry. He says that teaching is his only love. Mr. Charles W. Burdick is completing his second year at Valley. Mr. Burdick, who was born in Tallahassee, Florida, teaches Algebra II, Business Arithmetic, and Math II He received his B. S. C. from Roosevelt Uni- versity in Chicago, Illinois, and a Master of Arts from the University of New Mex- ico. His hobbies include electronics, hunting, and fish- ing. Mrs. Jean Byers, another new member at Valley this year, teaches English and Drama. She was born in Clovis, New Mexico, but raised in Albuquerque. She received her Master of Arts at the U. N. M. Mrs. Geraldine Campbell, who teaches sophomore Eng- lish, has been here for five years. She holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts de- grees. She was born just south of Albuquerque. Her favorite hobby is just fish- in. 11

Miss Tommie J. Allen, a Bi- ology and P. E. teacher, is at Valley for the first time this year. She was born in Ben- nington, Oklahoma and re- ceived her Bachelor of Science from Southeastern State Col- lege at Durant, Oklahoma. She enjoys riding and reading in her spare time. Mr. Thomas A. Arciniega, now completing his second year at Valley, teaches So- cial Studies. Born in El Pa- so, Texas, he received his Bachelor of Science from New Mexico State. His hob- bies are sports and books. Mr. Arciniega sponsors the Varsity Baseball and B-team football. Mr. Henry A. Bauer is completing his sixth year at Valley as co-ordinator for Distributive Education. Mr. Bauer was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado and received his Bachelor of Arts and his Master of Arts at Colorado State College. Mr. Bauer ' s hobbies are fishing and water sports. He sponsors the Valley Chapter of the Distributive Education Clubs of Amer- ica and the Key Club. Mr. Richard A. Beattie is one of the new members to join the faculty at Valley. Mr. Beattie, a teacher of World History, was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Education at East Central State College in Ada, Okla- homa. His hobbies are listening to good music and working with young people. 15 New Teachers Join V H S Frank W. Ackerman has been with Valley for the last five years teaching Algebra I, and Algebra II. Mr. Ack- erman was born in Cleveland, Ohio; but was raised in Ludlow, Massachusetts, received his Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts in School Administra- tion from the University of New Mexico. Among his hobbies, he includes building adobes with use of south- west materials. Mrs. Julia G. Andrade is completing her ninth year at Valley as one of the Spanish teachers. In addition to teach- ing Spanish, Mrs. Andrade sponsors the Tennis Club and the Spanish Club. Born and raised in Albuquerque, she received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of New Mexico. She is interested in traveling. Miss Clara M. Arretche, teacher of Spanish III and IV and sponsor of the Na- tional Honor Society, was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Her hobbies are reading and dancing, and she has been with Valley for nine years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Mas- ter of Arts from the Uni- versity of New Mexico. Mr. Roger C. Babcock, teacher of U. S. History and government, was born in Hastings Nebraska. Mr. Babcock attended Hastings College and received a Bachelor of Arts; he also attended the University of Nebraska to receive a Mas- ter of Arts. Mr. Babcock has been with Valley for six years and sponsors the National Honor Society and the Speech Club.

Teachers Sponsor Miss Kay Clauve has been with Valley four years and teaches Shorthand, Typing I, and Transcription. She sponsors Sigma Beta Epsi- lon, a business education honorary society. Miss Clauve ' s hobbies include reading, bowling, and play- ing Bridge. She is origi- nally from Wabash, Indiana, and she received her B. S. in education from the U. N. M. Mr. Vincent Cappelli has been teaching at Valley High since Valley was built ten years ago. He was born in New York City, New York, and holds a Master of Arts from New York University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of New Mexico. Mr. Cappelli is Physical Education teacher and sponsor of the Lettermans Club. His hobbies include all sports, construction, scouting — Mas- ters License in U. S. Maritime Service. Miss Sandra Chaput has been with Valley for the last two years. She teaches French I, II, and III and sponsors the French Club (le Cercle Fran- cais). Miss Chaput, who was born in Syracuse, New York, holds an A. B. in French from Syracuse University. Her hob- by is traveling from New York to New Mexico and back a gam. Mr. Joe M. Correll has been with Valley for two years, teaching mathematics and German. Mr. Correll, born in Monticello, Kentucky, received his Bachelor of Arts at Berea College, Be- rea, Ky. He is sponsor of the varsity tennis team. His hobbies include any sports. Mr. R. Crocco teaches World History, Sociology, and Psy- chology. He ' s been with the faculty here at Valley since it opened and sponsors the golf team. Mr. Crocco is interested in golf, reading, and history. He is from Pittsburgh, Penn- sylvania, and holds B. S. and M. S. degrees from the Univer- sity of New Mexico. 12 Mrs. Rebecca R. L avis nas been with Valley for the past six years teaching English. Mrs. Davis was born in Pennsylvania but received her Bachelor of Arts and Science at the Univer- sity of Ohio. Her hobby is read- ing. Miss Wilma Lee Deen has been at Valley for ten years and is one of the charter members of Valley. Miss Deen, who teaches Stenog- raphy I, Typing I and II, was born in Texas. She says her hobbies are gardening and reading. Miss Deen holds a Bachelor of Arts from Highlands University and Master of Arts from the U. N. M. Mrs. Roberta D. Demaret is a biology teacher and co- sponsor of the Valley High Science Club. She attended Stanford University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences and the University of New Mexico for her Master of Science in Biology. Mrs. Demaret was born in Trin- idad, Colorado, and enjoys music as well as sewing. She has been teaching at Valley for the past two years. She says she likes to catch loose snakes.
