Language Clubs Promote LATIN CLUB-Bottom Row The goals of the Russian club included gaining insight into Russian culture and promoting the study of the language. Under the direction of Miss Holubec and Mr. Mechem, the club members viewed an evening vesper service at St. Theodosius Church and attended Russian movies at Western Reserve University. Par- ticipation in poetry-reading contests at Kent State and Western Reserve Universities, as well as attend- ance at a Cleveland performance of the Bolshoi Ballet were planned. Encouraging students to develop an interest in Spanish was the main purpose of the Spanish club. Movies were obtained and speakers were scheduled. dent, C. Ferencz, secretary, J Norenberg, L. Initiation of new members was just one of the activi- ties in which the group participated during the year. Rainer Wulkow, foreign exchange student from Dillenburg, Germany, enlivened German Club meet- ings with his informative lectures on his native land and customs. An excursion to Old Austria, a German restaurant, highlighted the year. Promoting interest in Roman culture was the aim of the Latin Club. The club which was advised by Miss Mary Chambers, heard lectures given by Mrs. Knerr and Miss Shillat. The agenda for the year also included observance of the Ides of March and a banquet in May. B. Skills In Activities Our National Forensic League fosters students' active interest in speech and debate. Advised by Miss Barbara Greider, the Valley Forge Chapter is comprised of stu- dents who participate in vari- ous oratorical contests. Twenty- five points, accumulated by their participation in public speaking, are necessary for membership. Kurt Thornbladh presides over the club. Several members won awards of honor, merit, and distinction. Debate team members meet on Saturday mornings to com- pete with students from local schools.
