The growth of a yearbook, like the growth of a person, is a product of care. The care with which a family treats a baby or small child should be similar to the care with which a staff mem- ber treats his responsibility in the yearbook's growth. The life of a yearbook begins with the birth of an idea, a theme which provides the raw material with which the staff will Work in develop- ing the book. This idea is much like a new-born child, undeveloped, soft, waiting to be molded. The infant yearbook, like the infant, is influenced by its large family of people concerned with its Welfare. As each page is planned, as the page is drawn, as the copy is written, as the pictures are taken, the young volume grows physically and mentally. This growth, although a steady, enlarging process, is not a completely smooth procedure. As no life is free of problems, the production of a yearbook is not a problem-free development. Each problem is an experience, an occurrence which will be remembered in order to serve as a warning against similar mistakes. Time progresses, the baby becomes a child, the child moves toward maturity. The care which has been taken in raising this child shapes his personality after maturity. So it is with our yearbook, the care and love which each staff member has put into his work is exhibited in our finished product. On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the other people who have helped to make this book possible. We extend our very sincere appreciation to Mr. David M. Smith for his assistance and understanding, Mr. Bernard Specht, the stagecraft crew, and the custodians for their aid in the auditorium during picture-taking, and to the entire faculty who cooperated so well with the Archive staff. I personally wish to extend my deep appreciation to the members of the Archive editorial staff for their diligent work and tender care in the production of the 1965 Archive, to Mrs. Katherine Szmagala and the business staff for their expert handling of finances, and to Miss Suzanne Murphy for her advice, patience, and guidance in the position of faculty adviser. Conversely, the life of a person is accented by an experience such as working on a yearbook staff. Three years on the Archive staff have been a growing and learning process. I have grown with our yearbook to a maturity in which I understand the meaning and obligations of accept- ing responsibility. This past year as editor-in-chief, I have realized the value of my experience. Each day's work on the Archive has been a well-spent effort, and each page in this volume holds cherished memories. The 1965 Archive is a lasting memory of one of the best years of my life. I hope it will be for you a similar reminder. Editor-in-chief 241
