During the past summer, certain high school juniors throughout Ohio were chosen to attend the American Legion project, Girls' and Boys' State. At Capital University and Ohio State University, they learned the many facets of government by actively participat- BOYS' AND GIRLS' STATE: Bohmer, Dietz, Lukacsko, Meeth, DiAngelo. ing in a mock government on city, county, and state levels. The students were also given lectures by Governor Rhodes and other officials to help them understand government processes better. C Boys' Organizations Spark Enthusiasm J L The Boys' Booster Club, advised by Mr. David Kaiser, performed many services for the students at Valley Forge. The club's main project was a jazz concert. The pro- ceeds Were used to send our basketball team to the National Invitation Tournament in Madison Square Garden. Over one-hundred students belong to this organization. The Valley Forge Lettermen's Club, led by president Bob Truscello and the adviser, Mr. Robert Ramlow, ushered at basketball games and sponsored the student-faculty game and dance. Councils Discuss Present-Day Problems COUNCIL ON HUMAN RELATIONS BOTTOM ROW: Janosko, Harrison, Schwartz, Vitcha, Ruppelt, Renerts, Ferencz, J emma, Cowley, Wheeler. SECOND ROW: Van- Chantfort, Weber, Marr, Godman, Carlier, Reed, McCann, The Council on Human Relations was organized for the purpose of promoting better fellowship and understanding among people of various races, creeds, and national origins. Lectures and movies were presented at the group's meetings to help their pur- pose. Under the direction of Miss Lucille Shillat, Jesse Epstein of the Steering Com- mittee, and the co-chairmen, Dianne Ruppelt and Pete Renerts, the council members par- ticipated in many citywide activities, in- cluding the church tour and the annual clean-up at Camp Cheerful. Pulwer, Jones, Kay. THIRD ROW: West, Caron, Jones, Schueler, Thornblad, Schumacher, Epstein, Epstein, Baird. This year a new organization was formed, the Youth Traffic Council. Its pur- pose was to promote safety both in and out of school. The chairman, Dianne Dvorak, the adviser. Mr. Ronald Tvorikg and the mem- bers attended many conferences to discuss safety. To inspire in youth mature thoughts, creative actions and worthy goals for a safer tomorrown was the theme of the Columbus State meeting that all Youth Traf- fic Councils attended. YOUTH TRAFFIC COUNCIL BOT- TOM ROW: Williams, Grahl, Hassa, Corrigan. SECOND ROW: Crawford, Fava, vice-chairman, Dvorak, chair- man, Karbon, Schumacher.
