Describing oneis pride in being able to attend a specific school is often a difficultftask. The description is often -too easily obscured by the excitement of a game, the rush of the crowd to get to classes, and the pressure to complete homework. This pride, however, is perhaps best expressed by the words of the Alma Mater which was written by a member of this year's graduating class. By carefully reading the Alma Mater, we discover that the primary words are heritage, honor, loyalty and cherish. Considering these words, We find that these are the best ones to use when describing the thoughts and actions of Valley Forge students. Being a young school, perhaps we do not have the traditional heritage of older schools, but we do have the opportunity to establish a new heritage. Some traditions will be the same as those of older schools, but we shall also acquire new ones which will belong to VF alone. The traditions which we begin now will become a part of the heritage for those classes that follow us. In addition to the honor of being able to contribute to a new heritage, we also have the privilege of attending a space-age school which had been acclaimed by architects and educators throughout the United States. We realize this is a great honor, but we also realize that we cannot expect the building alone to bring us acclaim. We, as students and teachers, must be dynamic and strive to gain distinction. Already both students and teachers have gained honors for themselves and the school in the fields of science, English, and mathematics. Many older schools have taken much longer than three years to win these same honors. Our loyalty to VF is an unyielding one which shows itself in the enthusiasm which pene- trates the entire school. We show our loyalty to the Patriots by wearing the school colors on the day of a game and by enthusiastically supporting the team at the contest. How we cherish Valley Forge can be explained only in terms of memories. We will cherish the memories of the good times with our friends, the gaiety of the canteens, the splendor of the class dances and proms, the satisfaction of receiving a superior grade after long hours of study, and the excitement, sadness, and apprehension of graduation. Our pride in our school is a difficult thing to express verbally, but we students show it every day as we loyally strive to gain honors and establish a heritage which will always be a part of the memories of our cherished high school days WWE

N WACQUAINTANCES, NEW CLAS SES,AND NEW Early in the year, Mr. Smith interrupts his daily schedule to greet sophomores. Valley Forge High School, through class- room, laboratory, and show experiences along with extra curricular activities, strives to en- able its students to acquire knowledge and understandings, to formulate worthwhile goals, to develop a sense of inquiry, and to think for themselves. All of this is done within the frame- work of our democratic heritage and way of life. Itl is our hope that the lives of our students will be both broadened and deepened as a result of their high school career and that they will take their places as effective citizens in our country. We sincerely wish personal happiness and a most worthwhile and rewarding future for our 1964- graduating seniors. David M. Smith Principal At graduation, the seniors are assembled for the final time as a group. 6
