Another first in the depart- ment was tenth period athletics. This class gave boys playing on varsity and junior var- sity teams the opportunity to practice their particular sport during the entire year without missing any classes. The girls' program consisted of a variety of activities including modern dance and apparatus. Comparable to the boys' varsity sports was the girls' intramural program. BUSINESS ED CATIO Mrs. Mary Ann Buynacek Mrs. Helen Chase Miss Donna Kauntz Mrs. Barbara Krueger Mr. David Straight Miss Barbara Topolski Chairman This year's seniors in the clerical and secretarial courses were the first group to complete courses in the revised and improved training programs of the business department, headed by Mr. David W. Straight. Future secretaries and bookkeepers had-4 excellent opportunities to learn the many duties that will be required of them in their future employment. Dictation and transcription, a double period course, was a combination of Shorthand II, Typing III, and secretarial practice. Clerical office practice combined with the use of modern office machines was offered in a single course called office practice and machines. These courses were of great value because they served to prepare students to enter the business world upon graduation from high school.
