Bill Niro checks a page before it is sent to the printer. 1 Perhaps the best comparison to the publishing of a yearbook would be the growth of a river. A river is usually formed from one source, and then it flows to some large body of water, growing as it progresses. So, too, is a yearbook started by just one source - the selection of a theme to coordinate all the different sections of the book. Once the theme is selected, the book commences on its long journey to you, the students who purchased the yearbook. As the river moves along, it continuously grows as a result of the many tributaries that flow into it. The year- book grows in the same manner, with all the section editors adding their own ideas to the book. Their ideas are then considered, and the best ones are selected to be incorporated into the finished product. Once the skeleton of the book has been formed - the best ideas have been selected - section editors schedule pictures for their in- dividual sections, photographers take the pictures, and writers compose copy. All these steps are repeated many times during the yearg and when the book is finally completed, the staff anxiously waits for the first copies of the finished yearbook to arrive at the school. Then, and only then, can the staff really relax and admire its work. Although the staff does all the work, there are people who make the workprogress more smoothly. The Archive extends its deepest appreciation to Mr. David M. Smith for his assistance and his understanding of the staff' s problemsg Mr. Bernard Specht, the stage crew, and the custodians for their help.with the picture-taking in the auditoriumg and all the teachers who either excused students from classes for pictures or were otherwise affected by the work of the-Archive. As editor, I would like to thank the editorial and writing staff for their many hours spent meeting deadlinesg Mrs. Katherine Szmagala and the business staff for their bookwork this yearg and Miss Lil- lian Korba for her advice, patience, guidance, and wit in her position as faculty adviser. To me, being editor of the Archive has been a wonderful experience that will become a fond memory. I know I will never forget the summer meetings when the staff planned the entire yearbookg the bleak, wintery evenings when we stayed late to meet a deadlineg or the satisfaction of seeing the 1964- Archive become a reality. These memories and more will become part of a cherished yesterday - something by which to recall the good old days. That is the primary purpose of a yearbook. It serves as a memory book - something by which to remember the past.
