Valley Forge's home economics department, under the direction of Mrs. Gladys Taliak, had a variety of courses for students interested in the art of home- making. ln clothing classes the girls developed their sewing skills and became familiar with the funda- mentals of dress design, color, and texture. Their year was highlighted by a fashion show they presented for their parents at the end of the course. Foods classes gave students practical experience in meal planning and food preparation, while the home- making class provided instruction in home manage- ment and interior decoration. For seniors who were following the academic course of study, but who were interested in homemaking, a senior home economics course was offered. This class covered foods, cloth- ing, and general homemaking. These courses all provided excellent training for future homemakers. Girls learn to sew by patient practice. 1 6
