Briggs and the Board of Education strive to uphold the high standards of the Parma City School District. In order to meet educa- tional requirements of a rapidly expand- ing community, the Board launched many programs to both advance and expand Parma schools. In addition to school expansions and new school buildings, they developed such new programs of education as advanced placement courses, expanded language programs, and classroom television. SET AND ACHIEVED BY THE ADMINISTRATION Get Mr. Smith's permission, is a familiar statement at'Valley Forge, for Mr. David M. Smith must co-ordinate all major school activities. His aim is to provide Valley Forge students with academic, social, and athletic programs which serve to promote the customs, traditions, and high standards that are characteristic of a superior high school. After being graduated from Ohio State University with a Master of Arts degree, Mr. Smith first taught physics and chemistry at Parma Senior High School. He later became a guidance counselor at Parma Senior High, and assistant principal at Pleasant Valley Q Junior High. In 1959 Mr. Smith was appointed principal of Hillside Junior High School. He served in this capacity until 1961, when he came to Valley Forge High School. Under his guidance, the students of Valley Forge have seen it developed from an unfinished building in 1961 to the modern, well-ordered high school it is today. Mr. David M. Smith Principal Giving instructions to his secretary, Mrs. Hoelter, is part of Mr. Smith s busy day. 13
