TEENS GOVER -BOYS' AND GIRLS' STATE BOYS' STATE: Gary Gumz, Bill Niro, Mike Yurcheshen. GIRLS' STATE: Pat Offtermatt, Georganne Amon, Diane Detore. Last summer, the State of Ohio was suddenly divided into three states as the 1963 Buckeye Boys' and Girls' States were formed. The program was sponsored by the American Legion and run by high school juniors who were selected to represent their respective schools from the various school districts in the state. The students ran a mock state government which started with cam- paigns and elections and eventually led to a functioning Buckeye State government. Everyone gained valuable knowledge about the organization of the government and made many lasting friendships. Scene of Boys' State-Ohio University. Scene of Girls' State-Capitol University. 109
