SECOND AND FOURTH GRADES One hue day last summer MISS Proctor told the thlrcl and fourth grades to brlng thelr lunches They had classes for a whlle and then they played Follow the Leader up to the lwalr I-llll They had to walt for umor because he drclnt have hrs lunch They dlVldCd therr lunches wlth two chlldren who hadnt brought any because they were not in school the day before They had nectar w1th the1r lunch After lunch they salcl their poems Then they played Follow the Leader back to school They all went ln and got the flags and firecrackers that they had made 111 school Thxs all happened on Thursday and they went home and had a vacation untll Tuesday The sand table was a busy place th1s year ROTJIIISOII Crusoe first occupled lt with hrs rough abode and desert background Then he was forced to leave hrs home to a group of Hopi lnchans which were made of clay This lndran settlement was so real that the third grade was sure that Dr Wllll3mSOH would know at first sight that they were real I-lopr folks Thls was the work of one of the geography classes Dlcl you know that fourth grade chlldren could clrlve cars'-' Thrs year they drove from San Francxsco to New York on paper Every l00 ln spelling sent them 100 mlles ln thelr Studebaker They reached New York on umors birthday and quxte a few shared hls cake wlth hlm ln New York The thlrcl and fourth grades have the name of bemg the two classes whlch college students like to observe becau e of thexr keenness and alertness This IS especlally true m arlthmetlc drllls and spellmg contests Keep the good work up' 1 U U I . . .. FIRST AND SECOND GRADES Omar ohnson spent the week end in Fargo last spring and Tuesday morning he made his class mates envious by telling them of seeing a trained pony that could spell and could add harder numbers than he could The poney answered questions by shak 1110 his head Yes and No He even worked the cash register with his nose and made change when the man asked the pony What could you do lf there was a lire3 the One day m A first language class the children were to tell something interesting that their fathers and mothers had told them Harold B Jornsen told us about men who chve deep down in the water Harold s father had seen them in the old country 111 Norway I-Iarolcl sa1d these men wear rubber suits and hoods over their heads with llttle windows in their sults A long hose brings air to them so they can breathe while they are under the water These divers go dovm for precious stones and get things in ships that have sunk I-Iere IS a Joke that happened in Miss Searles class They had been studying tame rabbits and wild ones so m review next day Miss Searle asked I-low many kinds of rabbits are there? One little girl who had been absent the day before said I know' I-Iere are the four kinds: Flopsy Mopsy Peter and Cottontail. The C first grade class told stories one week. This was Margaret Moftitt s story which is a true one and just as Margaret told it in class. MY DOLL. I have a big mamma doll. It walks and it talks. Last summer my sister Dorothy gave it to me for my birthday. The doll had very long hair but we got tired of it so we sheared it then we covered it with black ink. We thought the head would crack but it didn t. My doll s name is Betty Jane.. One time some of my relations came over so I' fixed up my doll put on shoes and short stockings.
