11131 1 11. ' BASKETBALL IN THE TRAINING SCHOOL The basketball program adopted by the Training School for the winter term was, in every way, a success. The general basketball knowledge and skill gained by the squads was considerable, in view of the fact that many of the boys had not played the game to any extent previously. Of the four teams in the Training School, the Senior High quint, coached by Adolf Soroos, had the most notable success. With each succeeding game, they showed a rapid and consistent advancement in team play that brought them to top form in the final weeks of the season. Oscar Bjorgen did remarkably well with his Junior High School basketeers. In several contests with the City Junior High teams, his youths gave a good account' of themselves and fought hard until the end. His lads were all rather small, but they were real fighters. Neither Morris Olson's lifth and sixth graders nor the Midgets under the command of Herbert Tobias had the opportunity to play outside games. However, both of the grade squads practiced diligently and played games between each other. More impor- tant than the basketball technique acquired is the recreation afforded to nearly all the boys in the Training School at a time when play outside is often impossible. nh ' - - Gi I62 0
