69133: CQQQQW V INTRA-MURAL LEAGUE The football season marked the closing sport in outdoor athletics at S. T. C. The interest and enthusiasm for athletics was then carried over by the student body to the intra-mural contests. Since all the men students of the college were allowed to participate, keen interest was shown. The so- cieties led in the display of spirit-each society being represented by a se- lected group of men. The faculty was also represented by a speedy team, led by L. D. Rhoades. Rivalry was sharp and it was always evident among both the players and the spectators. Seven teams were represented in the league: l-lanamichi-Hanna, Captain: Delphi-Ridgeway, Cap- taing Atheneum4-Iverson, Captain: Orphans-Bignall, Captain: Faculty, Rhoades, Captain. , The final standing in the league showed a tie between the Clionians and the Hanamichis for first place. Considerable basketball material came to light, which proved a distinct help in building teams for the college basketball season. .sg I. I, S I ra IS4

Q l T FOOTBALL 1924 t 1 The football season of l924 proved a distinct disappointment to S. T. C. followers inasmuch as l only one victory was registered throughout the season. The return of Eggert, Hanna, Kirlcness, McCor- l i mick, and Boyd, showed promise of a record season for football at the beginning of the quarters the L coming of Ridgeway, former North Dakota University star, added another valuable asset to this ma- l Il terial. A squad of thirty-five men answered the lirst call for the gridiron practice: among the new t ,l faces were the following: Bublitz, Darkenwald, Tobias, McFadgen, Bignall, Feldmann, Conrad, 0 ' Bjorgen. Nloflit, Clavedetcher, and Dale. ,J l The veteran player, Glen Hanna, was elected captain, and proved to be a mainstay in the back- F i field throughout the season. Hanna has always been relied on to play a lighting and consistent game. 'Q The season opened with S. T. C. opposing the Moorhead Feds on the latter's field. This being . the first game of the season for S. T. C. very erratic football was played, resulting in a 32 to 0 victory X l for Moorhead. The next game was played at Fergus Falls against the husky Park Region Lutheran 1 f' team. Park Region emerged victorious with a close score of I9 to l3. Hanna was without doubt the E 'f star in this contest. Our first home game was with the experienced Jamestown College eleven. Our 32 N to 0 defeat might be accounted for by a lack of co-operation and an absence of lighting spirit: however, Y' a combaclc was made when the S. T. C. eleven swamped the Ellendale Industrial School by a 40 to 0 L victory. The final, and glorious windup was a return game with the lighting -Iimmies at Jamestown, the outcome being a scoreless tie. This was undoubtedly the best performance of the season: All the I players showed fighting spirit and played real football. Had the season started with this game, the o outcome of the remaining games would have been reversed. U Composing the baclclielcl were Dale, Hanna, Kirlmess, and Ridgeway, with Feldmann, McCormick, l Tobias, and Carlson in reserve. The line from end to end were: Bublitz, Darlcenwald, Conrad, Eggert, , ,j Moffttt, Bignall, and Clavedetclier. il This football season brought out many individual stars, evidenced by the fact that three of our W men, Kirlcness, Eggert, and Ridgeway were placed on all-conference teams. lVl'cFadgen, Hanna, and If I Dale were also considered seriously for similar positions. The loss of Soroos, star quarter of '23, was , l ' keenly felt throughout the season. His ability to diagnose plays, and his elusive manner of dodging ' his opponents, made him a very valuable man in the baclcfield. It is hoped that the football record of '24 may be atcned for by a champion and record' eleven for S. T. C. in '25. Q' W n 9 SUMMARY T Moorhead Normal ...., 32 s. T. C. l f Park Region ..,.,... .....
