Not only did our rooting sec- tion win the tangible award of the trophy, there were many flatter- ing comments from Tournament officials and civic leaders. While presenting the trophy for the Best Rooting Section, Dave Snyder, of the Tournament Committee, said: l don't want to slight past rooting sections but this lValIejol is one of the most remarkable ones in the fifteen-year history of the Tournament. The team received the trophy for its second place position with each member receiving a small silver basketball. Student Court Judy Lundgren Chief Justice STUDENT COURT Students who have been reported by teachers or student councilmen for violating certain school rules, such as those prohibiting littering or smoking on the school grounds, are subject to trial by the student court. The court meets at least twice a month during seventh period. lt is composed of twelve student members and the advisor, lvlr, Jones. The offices held by the students are the Chief Justice, eight associate justices, two scribes and a bailiff. When a student is brought before the court, he is given an opportunity to speak in his own behalf and to give an explanation for his alleged misconduct. After the student has appealed to the court, he is dismissed from the courtroom while the student court members decide, by majority rule, to what degree the student is guilty, and by what means he should be punished. The student is then brought back into the courtroom and told the decision of the court. Another major function of the Court is the counting of all ballots in student elections.
