Overshadowing the disappointment at the loss ot the game to lVlcClymonds, the spirit and determination of the team was matched by the color and precision of the rooting section. To quote the San Francisco Chronicle: Vallejo's basketball team may have lost out to omnipotent lVlcClymonds in the finals ofthe Tournament of Cham- pions at Berkeley Saturday, but the Apache rooting section scored a rous- ing victory. We're on the warpath scalpnng to win, Ring up the score again, Vallejo. lAnd again they came throughll The second game, a thriller against The Eureka High Loggers from Northern California, gained Vallejo the honor of playing in the finals. Fine defensive and of- fensive efforts by the Apaches resulted in a 49-35 score.

.4 ' Seldom does a school bring back four trophies from the Tour- nament of Champions, but we did it. Not only did our rooting sec- tion win the tangible award of the trophy, there were many flatter- ing comments from Tournament officials and civic leaders. While presenting the trophy for the Best Rooting Section, Dave Snyder, of the Tournament Committee, said: l don't want to slight past rooting sections but this lValIejol is one of the most remarkable ones in the fifteen-year history of the Tournament. The team received the trophy for its second place position with each member receiving a small silver basketball. Bill l-limes and Jerry Causey were awarded indi- vidual trophies signifying their selection to the All-Tournament Team.
