CRISTA STEINIG ,W we ' M11 ,'f3f- V . -. - c vwfffvzv-fffi . -'WWMMQ V-ff Aa, hu WQWMMW W, V2-frmw , RIGHT: Student Body President Joe Rapisarda greets Crista. ABOVE: Crista and her American sister, Sandy, coming to school for the first day. Lange Student Vallejo Senior High is one of seven schools in the Bay Area that is fortunate enough to have a foreign exchange student. The American Field Serv- ice has given us Crista Steinig, from Bremen, Ger- many. From the seventy applicants who originally applied to come, Crista and six other European students were selected on the basis of intelligence, personality, willingness to learn, ability to get along with others and to accept responsibility. Her Amer- ican sister is Sandi Bernardi. The plane ride to San Francisco from New York was Crista's first and she thought it very exciting. The first difference between German and Amer- ican life she noticed were the comparatively large houses, the wide streets, and the big cars, which seemed so plentiful. Our co-educational school of'24OO students was quite different from her girls' school of 400 in Germany, not only in size and courses of study, but in the comparatively short American school day and year. Speaking and understanding our language was difficult at first, but with the help of teachers and friends, Crista now does very well. Crista enjoys very much the many clubs and foot- ball games. Of the dances she says, l just love them. I think I haven't missed a single one up till now and l am going to miss them very much when I go home. After her enjoyable stay, filled with fun, oppor- tunity, and experience in the American way of life, Crista will leave Vallejo in June. After a three-week tour through other parts of the United States, Crista will return to her home in Germany. It has been a privilege and pleasure to have her here. I know we all join in wishing her success, good fortune, and fond memories of Vallejo Senior High. ff '5' '14- .,, me-.. Z .. 5'-2'-'f-'M-M., V 'il??-EL-T234 1. V ' f , ' . llf.
