He won the school’s Century III Leadership competition and advanced to the state contest in the fall of 1981. Also, he achieved the rank of Ragle Scout in the fall of 1981. Laura Holden won the 1981 Pondera County Junior Miss Competition held in Conrad and advanced to the State competition. She was elected the State Student Council Vice-President for 1981-1982. Also, she was a page in the Montana Legislature in the fall of 1981. Bob Wall was chosen as a National Merit Sem-finalist on the basis of his scores on the PSAT-NMSQT test, taken during the 1980— 1981 school year. Brenda Allderdice won the office of District 1 president at the fall convention. The club did many worthwhile projects helping the less fortunate. They sponsored a child from India, organized a March of Dimes Read-a-Thon, and had an assembly on Muscular Dystrophy. Six members and Mrs. Diede went to Billings for the state convention where the club received a Silver Arrow Award for increased membership; Karla Derks placed 3RD in the Battle of Skills; and the club received a Red Rose Award for the group projects. All of the scores on the judges sheet were excellent except for one. The group was very excited and wants to excel again next year. Such top-rate films as Battlestar Galactica, A Man Called Horse and the Incredible Journey were shown weekly or every two weeks during the winter months. The club also sponsored a dance in April in Heart Butte. Money earned from these projects went to the purchase of Indian Club jackets. Approximately 35 students were in the club this year. This year they were Kip Monroe and Kelly Broesder. To earn money for these scholarships we sold concessions and Valentines held a guessing contest of a container of candy. The winner of this was Frans Swier. We would like to thank Doug Sheble for donating 16c to our fund to make the scholarships possible. On homecoming we organized the parade, had a Mr. Athlete’s Foot contest-won by Kim Wentworth, and held a dance that night. Eight members attended the Fall District Convention in Great Falls. One amendment to the constitution was changed, allowing the students to have one representative attend school board meetings. Also, eight members attended the State Convention in Missoula where Laura Holden and Mike Lauffer helped conduct the meetings. We sponsored a Christmas dance, started an Energy Day Program, held a spaghetti dinner, and again eight members attended the Spring District Convention in Dutton. We held a local Skill Olympics which was a great success. Winners from Valier were Kirby, 1ST in welding; Kip Monroe, 1ST in small engines; Roger Hammer, 1ST in prepared speech, estem-poraneous speech, and job interview; Ron DenBoer, 2ND in architectural drafting and carpentry; and Chuck De-Boo, 3RD in leatherworking. The Valier officers placed 1ST in the official Opening and Closing ceremony. We held a car wash-a-thon on April 18TH and received great support from the community. With the money made, we attended the Spring Convention in Havre. Here Kip Monroe took 3RD in small engines, Kirby Swanson took 1ST in arc welding, and Roger Hammer took 1ST in prepared speech and exemporaneous speech. The club took home 1ST in all competion except one which they took home a 2ND in. We won 1ST in the Opening and Closing ceremonies, 1ST in club business procedure, and 2ND in club display. Competing against all schools in the state, the Valier VICA Club won the outstanding VICA chapter for the entire state of Montana.
