Many hours of work after school were needed for planning, writing copy, photography, layout, sales, etc., before it could be sent to the printer. The majority of the work was engineered and done by Editor Julie Monroe. Karalee Kovatch assisted with the final preparation of the pages. In charge of sales, elected as business managers, were Kelly Wentworth and Sherrie Belnap. Photography chairmen Lori States and Doug VanGorden made all the many needed pictures. They sold flowers at Homecoming, held bake sales at noon, collected recycable cans, and held their annual Easter basket raffle. The Easter basket was won by Ruth Kuka. Ushering, carrying flags at games and matches, and cleaning the trophy cases were the main activities of the year. At Christmas time they decorated the lunchroom and held the annual gift exchange. They had a grocery raffle. Five of the members attended district convention and Laura Holden was elected district secretary for next year. At the end of the year, the students wishing to run for next year’s officers gave speeches. The officers this year were: Kelly Wentworth, President; Joe Broesder, Vice-President; and Laura Holden, Secretary-Treasurer. The biggest success of the VICA Club was the local Skill Olympics in which three schools participated. They also had their annual turkey shoot, raffled off two leather directors chairs, worked at concessions, and held a pool tournament. They purchased a pool table for the lounge. Officers were: Bobbie Floerchinger, President; Roger Hammer, Vice-President; Sandy Boggs, Secretary; Ginny Wenzel, Reporter; David Stokes, Parliamentarian; Kip DeBoo, Treasurer; Erik Green, Stand in Club Advisor. Mr. Randy Bou-mans was advisor of the club. STATE COMPETITION IN HAVRE: Roger Hammer, Third, Cabinet Making; Erik Green, First, General Woods; Bobbie Floerchinger, First, Prepared Speech. The group as an Outstanding Club was Third in State and their Opening and Closing Ceremonies rated Second in State. Roger and Bobbie placed in the top 18 students (out of 122) in Job Interview.
