The Senior Class Presents a Co-Dedication of the 1975 Northern Lights to Mr. Frank Kunz and Mr. Robert Nelson With sincere thanks for all you've done, both for the senior class, and for the school. Your help in photography was a true contribution to our annual. For the influence you gave us as small children, and the marvelous work you've done in Reading Lab, we, the senior class of 75, say thank you. 2 SPORTS Football G! . 65 75 70J 82 74 i «Mf  n Q « Iff “ fjf li 80iil « «7 Front Row: Tom Stokes, Bruce Littledog, Angelo Marconi, Rod Moon, Danny VandenBos, Jerry Myhre, Randy Haynes, Brian Nadeau, Lonnie VandenBos, Mike Cary. Statistics The 1974 football season went well statistics wise. Although the Panthers had many injuries and a lack of communication between the team and the coaches, the men came out with two victories and several closely fought games. All in all it was a very exciting season. They showed great potential in their own and even more in some of the varsity games where they were given the opportunity to display their abilities. We can look forward to seeing these young men in action next year with the other returning lettermen. HAROLD'S CLUB The HEAD of our team. The closer you get, the better he looks! BACK OFT! Janine Adams Kathy Moon Sanda Stark Conference Honorable Mention This year's girls season proved to be a combination of successes and what ifs . In examining the 3 win, 15 loss overall record, the successes are easy to detect; a broken losing string of 37 games, much higher scoring than any previous Valier team, and a fifth place finish in the district tournament at Choteau. A more careful look at the what ifs indicates thet the team could have been, and probably was, a better squad than its record showed. For example, seven losses could have been victories with better free throw shooting. The 74-75 team has more to be proud of than simply their winning performances, though. They may look back knowing that they did a great deal to bring girls basketball to full stature in Valier. This team will be rememberd as a group of genuine athletes; not just girls trying to play basketball. We had a relatively poor dual record this past season with only 3 wins, 10 losses, and one tie, but we kept on a fightin' and ended the season on a very powerful note. Two of our sophomores ended up placing in state with one's taking a fourth and the other's being the champion in his weight class. He happened to be only the second wrestler in Valier's history to make this high a mark on the Fighting Panthers annals. If this is a key to our future, we should make a much brighter showing next year and in the years to come, as only one senior graduated from this very young team. The Annual Staff was an ambitious and hardworking group who wanted to make the 1975 annual different and improved. The co-editors, Dorothy Barron and Willie Field; the co-business managers, Sheryl Anderson and Kathy Moon; and a photographer, Glen Monroe, went with Mrs. VanGorden to Havre last fall to learn new and better ideas on how to put out an annual. The photographers worked with the photography class and Mr. Kunz in developing and enlarging our pictures. The business managers really did a good job in selling annuals, ads, and brands around Valier and Dupuyer. Their advisor was Rachel VanGorden. Irene, don t look now but she's taking a picture. BRIDEN CHEVROLET-GMC The photography class met three times a week this year to learn some of the fundamentals and basics of photography. They learned how to develop film, print black and white pictures, and also learned the composition of a picture among other things. Some members of the class did exhibition prints for the PTA Art Show in April. The Valier Chapter of the National Honor Society functioned mainly as a service organization this year. It was one of the largest groups Valier has seen in a long time with 20 male and female members. They put on a recod hop on May 16 to raise money for the retarded at Boulder. Their advisor was Richard Sirokman. New members initiated. The Student Council set their main goal to be more active this year, and that they were. They started off by attending the district and state conventions, they presented Birth of a Legend and sponsored the Shamrocks for Dystrophy Drive. With Santa's help, this group held the annual Christmas excahnge. They did their part in supporting the Panthers by buying mums and carnations for the tournament teams. In March, the council put on a Chili dinner with the intention of sending the proceeds to Boulder. Since there was no profit, they took money out of their own fund for their contribution. We feel that the Student Council was a success and would like to commend them on their work. 41 Seniors—best dressed class. Student Council President accepts 1974 wrestling tophies. What's up Ern? Cuz she's a V-A-M-P . . . VAMP!! The Chow Line The FHA got off to a great start last fall by going on a drive for the Jerry Lewis Telethon. In a matter of a couple hours we were able to raise nearly $150.00. The next event was District Convention in Fairfield. It was well attended and although none of our candidates were elected to offices, we were able to see what a good group we had. Charlie Sidebottom, who used to be a DJ for KEIN, came up for the annual Homecoming Dance, played records and made our Sock Hop a success. The hayride was again held at Rock City and was well attended. In March, we sent four delegates to the State Convention in Missoula. There was a lot to learn and many new ideas were gained. Instead of having a Father-Daughter Banquet, we had a Father-Daughter-Son-Mother Banquet. The Wanderers presented two musical selections as entertainment. Throughout the year the group served several banquets. The organization's last adventure was with the Senior Tea and Style Show. After the modeling, we learned that Patty Widhalm was elected Outstanding FHA'er and Willie Field was named Outstanding Senior. In- Charlie played DJ for Homecoming stallation was then held and the year was officially ended. They supported the Panthers in most home and away sports events. They earned money by selling concessions at home football and basketball games and wrestling matches. They also sold shakers and Panther Y shirts to help pay for the cost of taking buses to away games or matches. For Homecoming they elected Joe Cool, Maury Rideout, from the senior football players. And furthermore, Mr. Kunz, if you take that picture The Panther Paws did a good job throughout the school year performing services and small tasks which helped toward the betterment of Valier High School. At the athletic events they handed out programs, carried flags, and ushered. They also helped out by taking tickets at the Julie Morse Benefit Game, ushering for plays, concerts, graduation, and dusting the trophy cases. This year they earned money for their outfits by collecting recyclable cans, bottles, and newspapers, and selling magazine subscriptions. 48 CURRY'S THRIFTWAY Vocational Industrial Club of America SILVER MOON CAFE and BOB KINCAID, CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 49 Left to Right: Advisor Don Bogut, Perry Getts, David Olson, Chuck Fitzgerald, Treasurer David Norsby, Glenn Hammer, Brian Nadeau, Tom Barron, Mike Hofland, Dennis Abele, Vice President Glen Nadeau, Bob Klosterboer, Dewey Swank, Vernon Stokes, President Rod Moon, Burt Geiger, Secretary Derek Swank, and David Swanson. The highlight of the year was a three-day field trip to Lethbridge the last part of the year. In all, it was a very active and accomplishing year for the club. Due to the new interest in skiing in the Valier schools, the ski club acquired many new members along with the old ones. The ski club provided a bus for transportation up to Teton Pass Skiing Area on Saturdays or Sundays, whenever there were enough signed tp to go. Because a large amount of snow made the skiing season good, many ski enthusiasts from Valier turned out to try it for themselves.
