Our Panthers did themselves proud this year on the fields of athletic competition capturing as many trophies as was possible. They began by smashing all competition in football and then proceeded to do likewise in basketball, winning the district title and then moving into the divisional tourney at Lewistown. In the divisional competition Valier won three straight games gaining first place and the right to go to the state tournament at Livingston. Havre Central also went to state as runner-up in the Northern Division. At Livingston they came up with two wins pitted against as many defeats to take fourth place. Kay Mallette and Bob Palin were chosen for the all-state team picked by the coaches at the State meet. The Panthers’ good fortune, they feel, can be credited to many things but mainly good coaching and rabid support from the fans of Valier. All of the tournament games were broadcast either by business firms or by everyone in town chipping in to pay. The record of these teams is an admirable one, and one of which everyone can be justly proud.
