On the irrigated pasture shown at the left, the Vo. Ag. class is studying soils. In the soil profile they are looking for color, texture, structure, and depth of each soil horizon. These factors aid in determining soil productivity, crop types, and erosion factors. The picture to the right tells much the same story as the one above, except it is on dry land. Not shown on this page, but an interesting trip, was a field trip on Bang's disease. Bang's or Brucellosis, may be contacted by humans as undulant fever. The Bang's trip consisted of blood testing cows and vaccinating calves. The picture on left is of the Vo. Ag. class taking a day to caponize a group of roosters. The caponizing they are practicing is done by injecting Diethylstilbesterol under the skin in the neck, just behind the head. The compound counteracts the male harmones in a rooster and produces a capon. Every member of the class injected a bird, and at the moment Ed K. is wondering if he is going to hurt his little pet rooster. This won't hurt him, Ed. ■r
