SOCIAL ACTIVITIES EVOLVE THROUGH DECADES Over many years Valencia has had many dif- ferent activities. These activities in a way represented the times. In 1938 the girls, league sponsored a May Day Breakfast to acquaint the in- coming freshmen girls with high school activities. In 194-0 the Jr. Sr. Banquet was held at the Anaheim Elks Club. The theme that year was 'LGone With the Windu with a five piece orchestra for dancing enjoyment. In 1958 the girls' league sponsored a fashion show. It happened to be one 01 the top events of the year with a record number oi people attending. The climax was a mock wedding The theme was 'sRound the Clock with Fashions. Also in this year the Jr.'s invited the Sophfs to z The fashion show was common in the 50's. The May day breakfast originated in the 30's. The senior play was extremely popular for many years at Valencia. have always been a part of activities. I - 10 OPENING

care of the small offenses made by students. lt was considered to uccessful for student offenses decreased considerably as the l year drew to an end. The school continued to have five class ers and an advisor. That year, the song and yell leaders had vn to five. Then in 1969, the Student Council was composed of :teen associated student body representatives. The council's more nrtant responsibilities included the organization of the student body card sales, Homecoming activities, canned food drive, and the candy sale. By that year the school had grown enough to warrant a Student Senate. The Student Senate consisted of one person from every first period class as well as club presidents or their represen- tatives. The cheerleading group had grown to twenty-four girls. Finally, the 1983 Student Council consisted of nineteen members who worked hard to organiu, plan and execute all of the activities that tools place at Valencia. The work involved in the planning of ac- tivities was tremendous. Yet, these dedicated students put together one of the finest shows ever given by a Student Council. The cheerleading squad had a full twenty-four members. nce. The theme was calypso and the decorations ere outstanding. When they served the punch in a rved out watermelon there were many aahs to be ard. In 1963 the Jr., Sr. plays were held. The Sr. ay was titled I Remember Mama. An excellent rn-out helped make the Sr. play a prosperous ent. The Jr. play was called The Night of January 16th. This play held a new twist to class plays. A jury was selected from the audience to decide the guilt or innocence of the defendant. In 1976 donkey basketball brought out a crowd of students and teachers to watch others make udonkeysv of themselves. In 1982 the Powder Puff football game attracted a good crowd. The seniors dominated the game with three touch downs and two interceptions. The final score was 20-0, seniors. From 1938 to 1958 to 1982, the ac- tivities of VHS have changed a lot.
