ve developed outstanding athletes, some of whom ve made the major leagues in baseball. It has en through the efforts of these students that a eat many fine traditions have developed at Valen- ia. Our annual Heritage Day Assembly is an effort 9 have students learn of the people who have made p the history of this school. It is there that the past, for a moment, becomes a part of every Valen- cia student and they realize that they are not at any ordinary high school. They realize that character, poise, knowledge, and wisdom will be the first of their experiences in these hallowed halls. It is necessary, then, to make them realize that they, too, will be viewed one day with some awe and reflection. Therefore, it is for your ac- complishments, the alumni of Valencia High, that this book is dedicated. For bringing honor to this school as citizens and leaders in this country, we honor you with this book. Let us look at our school's history and the people who have made it great. INSPIRA TI O AL STUDENT LEADERS The student leadership of a high school has changed a great deal through the years. As a small school, the governing body was equally small. Participation in leadership roles grew as the schools grew. ln 1935, the Legislative Council consisted of six peopleg Franll Jones, Student Body President, Donald Edwardson, Vice-President, Dorothy Tayles, Secretary, Delbert jones, Treasurer, Victoria Allec, and Frank Hargove were Sports Activities representatives, finally, Gertrude Nelson, Student Body Assemblies coordinator. That year each class had a variety of class officers. The Senior class had a spon- sor, a president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and social chair- man! In addition, the year 1935 saw curly three cheerleaders one of which was a male. In 1949, the student council had grown to twelve people. That year the legislative body organiwd a school carnival.
