Complex was the sight of the premiere of Kool and The Gangs 1987 Victory tour, The oand, after cancelling an earlier date at Valdosta State, approached the school a sec- ond time with definite interest in launching the groups tour in Valdosta On the night of April 14, 1987 thousands of screaming fans delighted in seeing Kool and the Gang perform. This popular Top 40 oand is noted for its ten- der oallads, and performed such hits as Cherish, and Special Way. Student Volunteers Help Make Concerts A Reality Some people think that putting on a major concert s a simple task All you have to do is stand in line, pur- chase your ticket, find your seat and enjoy tha band. Life should only be so kind Despite the myth, there is a lot oi' hard work that goes on behind the scenes of a con- Cert Besides all of the negotiations, paperwork, adver- tising, and telephone calls, a tremendous amount of physical labor is involved with producing a successful show Tractor-trailers begin rolling into town during the wee hours of the morning, Workers, mostly VSC students whose only pay might be a free tee-shirt, a ticket to the concert, and maybe an up-close glance at one of the stars, begin the laborious task of unloading the equip- ment, and getting the stage ready for the band. Tons of spotlights and miles of electrical cable lat- er-the stage and sound-system are ready, lust in time for the show to begin, For this hard work and tireless dedication, the Milestones staff salutes the volunteers who have made the Beach Boys, Ricky Skaggs, Ready For The World, and Kool and The Gang concerts a reality.
