R , The l983- '84 year introduced VSC students to a host of new cheerleaders who had their share of ups and downs on the field or the court. With the recipe for spirit still unknown and the weekly editorials inquiring of a VSC mascot, suddenly 'The Blaze' emerged. To some this new being on the field was creative and cute while others termed it a sideline distraction and a foam rubber reject. l984 brought an entire new concept in concerts. The Fine Arts Ampitheatre was the locale of two outdoor shows, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Michael Iceberg. People, dogs and coolers accompanied by beverages and blankets enjoyed the regrouping of the original Nitty Gritty Dirt Band featuring the reunion of .lohn McEuen and .leff Hanna. The encore number, 'May The Circle Be Unbroken , brought goosebumps to the crowd. Michael Iceberg and The Iceberg Machine returned to VSC offering workshops and dazzling students with the audio visual display. Robin Zander, Rick Nielson, Bun E. Carlos and Tom Petersson got the crowd up though the lights weren't down as Cheap Trick shook VSC in November I983. We M0 , F., .,., ,kifmimaw
